Hello my name is Kelly and my husband and I are getting our first few ladies with in the week... We have been wanting to have chickens for some time and now feel the time is right. We have a 3 year old little boy whom is all about his animals. So this will be a learning experience for the 3 of is. We have our coop and working on our run to have it all finished before we get our chicks. Excited to be apart of this group and hope to be able to learn as much as I can from everyone here.

It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

Thank you for the helpful tips I'll be making a list for my first aid kit... Yes our coop as a vent at the top and two windows hopefully they will love it

Your coop is looking great! Your flock should love it!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
