I have only had my puppy 2 days, but this evening he is coughing a lot and hacking. I read up on the symptoms and I am sure its kennel cough.

He is still eating, lively and playful, but I feel sorry for him coughing so bad.

I am taking him to the vets after work tomorrow.

Should I be worried about this? Has anyone else's puppy had kennel cough?

He is a chihuahua dog and I am worried as he is so small.

Thanks

Did you talk to the breeder so see if any others are sick, and if the mom and dad of the pup up to date with there shots?

I went back to the shop I got him from, and all the other puppies there seemed fine and healthy.

My friends bought his new puppy around to play with mine the first day I got him. He has now told me his puppy had kennel cough and runny eyes a week ago, but recovered!!!!!!!!! So I now know my puppy caught it from that other dog.

Last night he was really bad and kept me awake. So I took him to the vet today.....good job I did because they told me he also is running a fever and has a high temperature.

They gave him injection of antibiotics and I have to give him medicine each evening and morning. That is NOT going to be fun....

kennel cough is pretty common. Usually it's about equal to the common cold in humans. Keep an eye on him, make sure to finish all of his meds and he should recover just fine.

Thank you everyone for the advise and friendly words. I just naturally am worried about him - I have got very attached. If he was a bigger dog, or my adult mix breed dog I would not be worried.

If just that he is less than 2 months old, and so small, I worry it will be more harmful to him.

I gave him the 2 medicines tonight - I have to squirt the stuff down his throat 2 x a day (with separate medicines). I hate doing it as he gets stressed. I want him to like me - not think of me giving him nasty tasting stuff. But I guess I have to do it.

I think he might be albino also. He is white, greenish clear eyes. His eyes half close outside in the sunlight, but open fully inside. His nose is pink, and so are his feet.

I will post a photo on here soon.

I had a pug mix a long time ago who got kennel cough when she was about 4 months old. She had to go to the vets due to breathing issues (pug) but with the medications, she recovered no problem

Pictures yet? He sounds darling!

I can't get my photos to load on this site anymore......I don't know why.....it does not work...

He is much better.......the coughing has reduced and last less time. He has even more energy. Today he has only coughed when he had a drink in the morning.

I am so happy now he is nearly better!!!
