You're comparing apples to oranges. There's no reason in the world a DMV clerk should be required to take a drug test. They have set hours and what they do in their own time is their business. If their high during work hours then they should be disciplined. Just because we pay their wages through our taxes doesn't give us any right to dictate how they should live their lives.

Why shouldn't a DMV clerk be subject to a drug test? I am a 9-1-1 dispatcher who works all 7a-3p and am subject to random drug tests. If I get in an accident on county time, I am subject to a drug test. I have to be clean from drugs and alcohol in order to keep my job and get my paycheck. Why shouldn't people on welfare be subject to the same thing, when they are doing nothing but sitting on their butts and getting handouts?

ANYONE under gov't pay should be subject to gov't worker standards. My husband is a Bomb Technician, so you are right that they have very different jobs. However, he gets the same pay and benefits as the DMV worker!

I also don't believe there is such a thing as part-time drug use.

The very idea that people are allowed to have some assistance based upon our judgment of their lives is basically evil. If I see that someone is in need I don't judge how they got that way or lecture them on how I was once in that position and I got out so they should be able to, I help them if I can. People who sit around and worry if their tax dollars are supporting someone who smokes pot really need to get a life. Your own legislators have sold you out and you're worried about tax dollar supported food stamps buying some kid a cookie???? Really? Halliburton was charging how much for a stale sandwich over in Iraq and you're scared to death that someone is going to get their child some vaccinations and she got high last night? When did we become the people who threw their hands up in the air and said "I got mine, sucks to be you." So much for this CHRISTIAN nation. Makes me proud that I'm not a Christian.
