My 72-year old father, who was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer that then spread to his spine, went to work IN A WHEELCHAIR for months-he went to work on a Friday and died on Sunday(taxes taken out of that Fridays pay).
My husband goes to work every day in pain due to a botched rotator cuff surgery.
That to say this, do I want the tax dollars that my father and my husband, who refused to lay up on the government, have paid into these entitlement programs to go to some burner who is too lazy to get up and get a job because they're too busy eating cheese puffs and pop tarts? Absolutely not.
Trust me, there is NO logic that can sway my opinion on this one-this is personal.
If you are living off of the government, why, on God's green marble shouldn't you be subjected to what a lot of hardworking Americans are subjected to in order to keep their jobs?
This kind of thing infuriates me!

X2!!!

And when I was a kid, Mom (a single, divorced woman w/four kids and no child support) received food stamps.
Today, DH and I budget, budget, budget, buy tons of generic/store brand foods, and avoid chips, packaged snacks, pop, etc., because those things are pricy and last no time. So it irks me when I see folks spending free money (well - EBT cards now) on tons of junk food, and it's generally top shelf.
I also support the drug testing. I was required to take them in the military, so folks living on tax payer money shouldn't complain about having to take them.

If military personal are subject to drug testing all year every year, then so should everyone else on a government program. The gov't pays us for the service my Navy hubby provides, and in return, he FOLLOWS THE RULES. Period. He would lose his job if he smoked a join, even *once* a year.

Is that worth it??

AMAZING!!! When I was younger I was sent to live w/ my gparents in OK and I can tell you from experience there were sooooooo many drug addicts on assistance it was just sad. I hope others states follow suit!!!

I agree. I know WAY too many people in the military who are using food stamps and or WIC and I honestly don't care if the test is right or not, by golly if their family member is over fighting for us they should be entitled to those food stamps. Not to mention the fact that I am getting ready to go back into fostering and my sick babies qualify for WIC-think I'm going to foster babies if I have to pass a drug test each time I go in for my WIC supplies? Uh NO.

X3 I worked my butt of working overnight at 7-11 when I had a 6mo old baby, hubby worked days and it used to peeve me like no other when people would do a junk-food run w/ food stamps. SERISOULY?!?! They also obviously need financial managment classes, maybe they won't need food stamps if they quit wasting thier money on a bunch a junk.

Another thing, where did peoples pride, sense of honor and work-ethic go?! My husband is in the military and we qualify for assistance but I just cannot bring myself to apply for it, I find other ways to save money and make my dollar go further. It jsut makes me so mad to see people working extremely hard and then watch others reep the benefits!

I was one of those welfare folks who had been on Food stamps and this is my intake on this........I am glad that KY passed the law!

I've seen too many people waiting in line, smelling like pot or shooting up drugs or drunk and majority of them I saw are of the other race than white. As for drug tests, to keep from false positive, what about sample of hairs to determined if they are users? That would indicate if they are taking drugs, not sure if they can tell you what kind of drugs they are using but still another way of testing.

I would have to say with the false positives, they can retake the test or find another test that would accurately test them, urine, hair or blood samples, anything they can get to get them granted for Food Stamps.

My aunts, and my cousins has worked in food stores, it is amazing how they use food stamps and it is CHEAPER to buy those crappy stuff because they fill them up faster and less cost in bulk. Fresh veggies and fruits are premiums and highly persishables. Even food banks give out alot of beans, mac and cheese, cheap cuts of meat or canned meats, canned veggies and day old or discounted breads. Not an excellent diet but it feeds your family. BUT many of them would buy steaks and lobsters, living off the high hog with expensive meats and they would have to hit up the food pantries alot sooner because they ran out.

We were on food stamps and visiting food pantries for at least six years, off and on, depending on hubby's job. We in most cases could NOT get on Food stamps because we simply making $5 too much or $50 dollars too much...and I do not like the way they are figuring out the wages of what you earned, not what you bring home. What you bring home could be less than a couple of hundred dollars taken out for taxes, etc. and that amount of money would feed our families. But they don't count it that way. Now last year, hubby was fortunate to find a much better job, got better pay, has insurance, we was able to get off of welfare! It's time for someone else to take our place. Both of us worked for years before I lost my job, filed bankruptcy, expecting a baby, it was a time of hardship and bad luck in our situtation. In return, we started to donate food back into those food pantries, thanking them for helping us out and give more than I usually give.

As for the poppy seeds, there was a show talking about that, those two men who had to eat poppy seeds and it failed to positive-ized the tests, it only showed trace amount of opium in the urine samples. They had to eat alot of poppy seed buns to get even that much.......remember that one? Mythbusters is the show.

My husband has to be tested at random at any time at his job because SAFETY is a priority to the company! Two guys were fired from using drugs, they drove forklifts and it is dangerous to drive those things while you are "high" as a kite. One was too aggressive, knocked three people off their feet when he rammed the forklift into a pallet they were holding a CAT equipment. Those things weight thousands of pounds and you bet that company would be aggressive in checking out potheads, drunks and illegial medications. If you are taking ANY meds prescribed by your doctor, it has to be reported to your supervisor so they can put it on the list. If you have a cold, just mentioned it and your supervisor will make note of it that you were taking Nyquil but he will be watching you like a hawk on the floor that you are not doozy. I agree with Acid Chipmunk.....if employees has to take it, I see NO problem in welfare folks to take it. Particuarly the welfare career folks.

I have mixed feelings about this. I think it's OK to have people tested for drug use, but on the other hand the tests are far from perfect. And, just because there are stupid parents out there, I don't like the thought of kids not getting what they need because their parents are dumb. There's no cure for stupid, and kids shouldn't suffer for it.

I don't like it. What does drug use have to do with getting public assistance? I guess it's better to have those people breaking into houses and stealing things to get their fix. Then they can put them in jail and pay 10x as much to private corporations to feed and house them. Are they going to deny benefits because someone smoked some pot? I wonder if the people writing the law are sitting around with a gin and tonic on their desk and driving home a little drunk.

What about the woman with 3 kids that can only get a job cleaning for 8.00 an hour. Child care is more than she can make so she has to stay at home to take care of kids. Smokes a little something with a friend and the woman has to move into a cardboard box while the kids go to foster care. That's a real big help.

Bad Idea.

People in the military do a very dangerous job. Even during times of peace they do dangerous stuff. They are also on duty 24/7 for 335 days a year. They can't be stoned when the balloon goes up or there is a recall of all personnel back to base for a readiness test. They should also be forbidden to drink 24/7 too.

You're comparing apples to oranges. There's no reason in the world a DMV clerk should be required to take a drug test. They have set hours and what they do in their own time is their business. If their high during work hours then they should be disciplined. Just because we pay their wages through our taxes doesn't give us any right to dictate how they should live their lives.
