Ahh, I've seen you on craigslist. Where you at the first Sadieville swap in the field?

The rain and mist in Bloomfield have made my pen muddy and stinky too. A bit of nice straw will help that. Their yard is fine. I did not cut it real short so plenty of grass and weeds. They prefer their yard of course its approx. 30x50 or so. It was a goat corral but the goat kept juming the fence! Small gauge wire all arounf the lower boards. A small runway goes from the pen to the yard. Works great! I am looking for the first eggs anytime now. Anyone getting their first eggs?

Sounds like a nice set up! Depends on the breed of birds. My lighter breeds like the EEs and welsummers starting kicking in at 5.5 months. My slower maturing wyandottes haven't hit puberty yet.

Went to look at some random chicks yesterday but they were all sold

oh well!

Off Topic: And then the other night me and a few friends were passing a graveyard ( out in the middle of nowhereville, not a house in sight) when we saw 6 sets of little eyes glowing, so we went to check it out! ( yeah that's it ) and found 6, one to two month old or so kittens that someone had dumped out. They ran right up to us so we knew they weren't little wild kitties

someone had probably dumped them that night. Had to take them in, :S when I got home I fed them and gave them water ( they were so hungry that they ate through the Styrofoam plates I had the food on. Now have 6 kitties I'm trying to get rid of! Hopefully will soon, or there going to the no kill animal shelter near me if they'll accept them. Otherwise dunno! I guess I'll have 6 kitties :S

Oh Stamping Ground! Spent some time there as a teenager in the summers visiting a friend. and those wild farm boys! ha ha I would not recognize the place now. My birds are Orpingtons and they are right around 23-24 weeks. Big Gals for sure.

I was able to take advantage of the dry weather today and raked and put shavings down so the coop smells much better.

I have realized my chickens are spoiled rotten, the followed me all over the yard begging for food. I couldn't get them out of my way while I cleaned and had to toss them some food. I went out to the front yard to watch my kids play and several chickens followed me out there to hang out. My neighbors must think I am crazy, I live in suburbia in Lexington, not the country.

Thats great! My hens do the same. Of course the loving feeding of treats did the trick when they were very young. I blame CLUCK in Lex for my chicken addiction. We went on the coop tour, and had my first chicks with a couple of week. Lexington has some nice Back ard Coops would love to see more.
