Wow, very cheap, but this time of year, I'm leery of buying shipped eggs. I'm waiting to see if the orp eggs hatch well since they were shipped when it was so cold down here last week.
I do love the black australorps, though - they are so sweet and funny.
I may try to find someone closer who has hatchign eggs - someone I can pick them up from, instead of having them shipped usps.
On the orp eggs, I threw out one that was clear, have another I'm not sure of, but 12 all look good for sure so far. I can't wait til those hatch, the buff orps are so pretty!!!
I think that first chick that hatched on the last batch (I think it's a rock) is a little roo. The rir chick has more feathers than anyone else in the cage. The cochin babies are getting lots of leg feathers.
If Cindy takes BC back, I'll probably put the little jap in with them, since they'll be about the same size by then - the jap will be a little bigger. I may put the cochins into their own cage and put the Jap in with the mixes, though - for crowding reasons. 8 growing chicks in those cages is pushing it. Plus the mixes are a bit more aggressive than the cochin babies, they'd be able to hold their own with a bit bigger chick thrown into the mix.
I'd like some Delawares, but from what I've been reading lately, I want some from a breeder, not a hatchery. Apparently the hatcheries are selling Columbian Rocks as Delawares - which is fine if ya just want them to look sorta the same, but the Delawares have larger chests (I've read) and the Rocks have larger legs and thighs. I want to be able to have some bigger breasted birds for my meaty mixes. I may just have to break down and get a Cornish Roo. From pictures (never saw one in person) they are sort of odd looking
Well, gonna go check on Mom's dog - I guess they left this morning to go get breakfast somewhere, and took one dog but not the other. (At least I hope they took the other dog, because it is nowhere to be found, here).
