I have the HughesNet satellite. It's the only thing I can get here besides dial-up

It is definitely faster than dial-up, but it doesn't seem to be as fast as some DSL's I've used. It works pretty good, except when the power goes out

That is one plus to dial-up. As long as your battery is charged on your laptop, the power can go out as much as it wants and you can still be on.
I have mine through earthlink, and it's $69.95 a month, but I have 20 hours free earthlink dial-up that comes with it.
It seems to work pretty good, but if you download a lot of things, it will make your speed drop for about 24 hours. But for the most part, I'm happy with it. If they ever get DSL in my area though, I'll switch to that.

Shelley Do you download any music? Other than surfing all we do is download music from itunes. Right now I have DSL through Windstream. But in the last week my speed is so slow that I cannot even get onto byc. That is not good.

No I haven't downloaded any music. Most of my downloads are for school. I think I was downloading some software when I first started school, and it zapped my speed for at least 12 hours. I hate windstream. That's who I had dial-up through. I couldn't believe how slow dial-up is nowadays!! This is the first time I have had my own computer, but when I would use friends' in the past, I don't remember dial-up being that slow.
Have you called them to see what's up? I upload/download pictures all the time, and haven't had any problems with the speed since I first started school.

I have been on the phone 3 times in the last 2 weeks. And each time I have to go through the troubleshooting resetting and such. They tell me to do a speed test and it wont even finish. I have broadband. I may have a slower speed but this is ridiculous. I want to go to a satellite so that I can even tell them to keep their landline phone.

You can get internet service through some of the cellular phone companies too. I think the one with all the people on the commercials (whose name excapes me atm) is one of them. I can't really get cell phone service here, too many hills and valleys, but I would do the same thing if I could. There are so many cell phone companies that have pay one price deals that would be the same price or cheaper than what we pay for a landline. And you can take those wherever you want.

You must have been there after I left - I didn't stay past 5:00.

I asked if you were going, and ya never answered me

I'd have brought the japs for ya, if I knew you were going. I was parked towards the back, by where they unload the big critters and the back entrance to the auction (poultry) house. Like, on the right hand side, but way at the back edge of the building.

I got cold, and everyone was going inside to the auction, so I figured to bring the spitz boys back another day.

I got the bator fired up and regulating, any eggs I get tomorrow I'm gonna stick in there.

Hey Croney I did away with my land line 2 years ago now use cell phone's and Wild blue for internet. Only draw back is we do lose service with a hard rain and occasionally have to remove snow if it builds up on the dish. The wifey downloads music with no probs. We use the lower cost service plan and depending on when you use it it can be very fast with the down loads
