Welcome to BYC, Hope you still have heat and electric. What kind of chicks? Pics? I tend to be a lurker on this site, following Meri, Shelleyed and Cindy. As well as Fryr, crooney, briarpatch, and others.
I had just posted, and decided to eat breakfast so went to cook some fresh New Hampshire eggs. I sat back down to the computer and started to eat when I hear a squeel behind me where I keep my 3 foot by 4 foot cardboard box brooder.
Turning around I find I have two seperate cock fights going on with my New Years day hatch mates. All nine chicks are on top of the brooder and the young cocks are looking for donanance already.
I ignore their posturing. But shortly thereafter I hear what can be described as a herd of little feet running back and forth across the cardboard lid, so I turn and look. It seems that they started their own Superbowl match with everyone looking to steal a penny size piece of cardboard ripped from the top of the lid. Back an forth they go with wings a flapping.
Well it looks like they are fast outgrowing their home but are still to young to put out with the older chickens.
They are all now down inside scratching away eating and doing all little chick things. every now and then I'll hear what sounds like gravel hitting an old fashion tellephone bell as some scratched food gets thrown against their outgrown round metal feeder.
