I don't even remember you setting those eggs under the broody? When did that happen? What went wrong with them?

I'm thinking of setting some ducks under one of my broodies. I have 3 that are due this week, and one that just started. The one that just started has one egg that I know of, and I have no idea where she got it from!

It is a pretty good sized brown egg, and I thought Nugget was laying with her! Nugget is my blue OEGB pullet, and she doesn't lay brown or big eggs! I don't see how any of the bigger hens could have gotten into the bucket with the one that is setting, she is pretty big herself! It could be her own egg, but I don't think so. I am pretty sure she laid that day, and I took the eggs when she got off. Then that evening she decided to go broody on me!

If I wasn't saving millie eggs for someone, I'd be setting those eggs under her!

Good Morning All! Shelley if the Buttercup is a pullet I'll still take her, if it turns out it's a Roo, go ahead and take it to Sano.

I lost one of the baby banties the other day, and may lose one more. However it does look like I managed to pick out at least two Silkie chicks when I picked up the banties on Friday. A black one and a grey.

I managed to finish putting the netting over the run and coop areas yesterday, now just have to build the door/gate and a ramp for the chickens to get in and out of the coop/pen.

If the goslings are due on the on April first we will probably be down either the 1rst or the 2nd, have to check with FP and see which day is better for her. A meet & greet sounds good.

Once I get the chicken area finished, I get to start the garden plot, and finish the pigeon loft. I need to hurry up with that as my homers are getting really antsy to have some flying room.

WOOT!!!!! I'm getting white call duck eggs from the swap !!!

Baby duckie is doing good this morning, not totally on hisfeet yet, sorta sqwuishy, but he's trying and getting better - I put him into a brooder with a small chick for company. I put him in with the "special" chick hatched last time - the one with the slipped tendon. That chick is doing good, but is smaller than the others in his brooder, so I figure he'll enjoy the peace of just a baby duckie for company.

Day & Day had a whole full bin of duckies this morning .... so tempting

No chicks yet - said they might come in this afternoon, but the big batch will be in Thursday. I'll just call later to see if any Brahmas came in and stop when I take Jon to work.

I was in town this morning cause Sam overslept - not too bad, but bad enough to miss his bus, so I figured I could just stop in then.

well, gonna cruise a bit -

He's a bit mushy still - my humidity was off, but he scoots very fast, and he is working on getting his legs under him pretty well. I think in a day or so he'll be running, instead of scooting.

He's very bright and inquisitive, so that's a good sign.

He and his buddy get along great.

It's Equine Fresh horse bedding pellets - it works pretty well (especially for ducks). It doesn't get as "blown around into waterers" as pine shavings, and it smells just as nice. When the duckies splash water, it get wet and turns to powder, then ya just fluff it up a bit - cuts brooder cleaning down to once a week or so (instead of every day - or three times a day).

With one duckie it probably isn't needed so much - but with 150 chicks - I had to try something besides puppy pads

was changing those every few hours with the pads.

Sorry! We had to run real quick, then Cris wanted to go fishing in the pond. Just got back.

One of my quail hens had an egg stuck halfway out!! I got it to come out the rest of the way, but now i don't know what to do. Do I isolate her or put her back with the others? Will it happen again? Does anyone know??
