Kentucky people

And on another note...We need to come up with a name for this psycho pullet(Blue Ameraucana) behind the Australorp. She is a sweet low key chicken till you walk by her then she has a severe panic attack and runs away giving you up one side and down the other. And she doesn't shut up when she is out of sight...She is still hollering at ya all the way around the corner...She's hillarious. I think when she starts laying we'll hear her all the way up to the house announcing her egg.

So what should we name psycho bird?

I got me a baby calf today!! Tony pulled in with one in a trailer, asked if I wanted it yet, or if I'd rather wait a little longer on one, I said I'd take him - I'll get pics later, it's raining right now.

I might have another in a day or two - the "cow guy" says he has another about due any day - if it's a calf, I get it (if it's a heifer he keeps those). We're going to get four total - I figure it's no more work to do four than to do two.

how about Amok (amuck). (as in "run amok")

or Tweak (like the kid on South Park who drinks too much coffee)

or Eris (the goddess of discord and chaos

Hail Eris! Hail Yes! )

I named Jr's one remaining baby Psycho - because she acts the same way.

You could always just name her "BOO!!"

I need to name my new calf, too - been trying to come up with a name, but nothing fits.

He finally figured out the bottle this morning - it was rough at first, we both nearly tripped into the water bin
lau.gif
but once I got him out, and he found the bottle, he sucked it right down no problem. Then he wanted more, so he sucked on my jeans leg for a second or two before I gently shoved him off
gig.gif
ICK!!

He's so sweet, though, ya can't get mad or be grossed out by him.

Now that I have chores done, I'll go get a pic of him.

I had to bring in two quail - they'd been either picked on or fighting, one has a hole in the side of his/her neck - skin torn, not too bad, had nearly stopped bleeding, but I brought it in and put blukote on it, anyway. The other had a bald head - no blood, but I put blukote on it, too. The other two quail in the cage were fine, not a mark on them.

I have GOT to get these ducklings out of the house. They are making such a stinky mess I can't keep up with them.

Would anyone be interested in some cute pure rouen ducklings (4 of them) that are - near as I can tell - about two to three weeks old?

They're adorable and sweet, but messy and I could put them outside in the pens if I didn't have the big swedish in there to pick on them (the geese might pick on them, too). And I certainly don't want to put them into a chicken coop - been there, paid for it by completely gutting the coop floors - it was nasty. Maybe I could put them into the brooder coop - I have room in there, and the floor would be easier to clean. Hmmm..... methinks the babies are going outside today

Ok, just pics of the calf and a few other critters who wouldn't let me be this morning.

Not sure what they were looking for in here - and I probably don't want to know.

I had a BO that would yell at the other hens if they where in "Her" nest. She would try to push them out of it and yell at any hen that tried to make her share it when she was in it. She would yell at us when she saw us coming for eggs and we could hear her yelling until we got in the house. I once was her make a fuss with another hen over the nest then stand there and lay it right in front of the other hen then that hen pulled it under her real fast before the other one knew what happened. Boy did that make her mad. She knew she laid an egg but coulnd't find it. That other hen just sat there like nothing was wrong. It was too funny. She squawked for probably a half hour.

Ok, I am actually starting to worry that I might run out of chickens for sale.

I am considering calling that Reichs place up in PA and getting another 110 chick order
lau.gif
I can only hatch out so many chicks, and I got more customers than I got chickens.

I have two people who are coming over for chickens today (at some point... still waiting) but even if they don't come today, the one, I know, will be coming this week, the other one may be waiting until the eggs I have in the hatcher hatch out.

In the brooder/for sale coop I only have 25 or so chickens left. I've been selling them in "flock size" batches, so those 25 wont last very long. I have 10 chicks in the house, and another 28 in the hatcher waiting to hatch. I'm still thinking that may not be enough to last me very long.

Seriously. I have sold 55 chickens in the last week, and I'm still getting calls to come and buy some.

Since I don't sell for huge prices, I'd rather either hatch my own or order the "extras" packages. Those end up being mostly roos, but ya know what? I have all of three roos in that 25 batch in the brooder coop - I've even sold all of my roos!!

I am not bragging, really I'm not. I am wondering where my next chicken sale is coming from
lau.gif
and I wanted to also have some for the Liberty Sale this fall. I like making money, I'd hate to have my stock run out and not be able to make money.

Shelley, does your dad have fertile large fowl eggs? I might need to buy some from ya, cause I'd like some variety, too.

Yep the Casey County sale. I've never been, but more than just Shelley has told me I simply HAVE to go
lau.gif
so I figure I'd better have something to sell.

If I order chicks tomorrow, I ought to have some raised up enough to sell pretty well out there.

I told hubby my "dilemma" (
gig.gif
) and he said yeah, go ahead and order another 110 chicks.

I just (they just left, actually) sold 9 more chickens, but I had a call earlier and have to have another few to trade for an incubator. Not sure how many, we're gonna sit down tonight and check out the bator and then we'll talk trading
big_smile.png
I been needing another bator, anyway, so this works out well. I'll have to buy a turner for it, but I don't mind that.

lau.gif
I almost had those nice folks talked into Ducks.... maybe next time

Last year the Casey Co. sale was in October, they haven't listed it yet. I'll get a flyer about a month or so before and I'll be sure to post the details.

Meri~~We have LF mix and RIR, but the reds have been roaming around for a while. I don't think the other roos are interested in those girls, but who knows? We always have eggs though. We get probably 8-10 a day (cause the birds are apparently hiding their eggs
somad.gif
)

So how are chickens selling right now?? What are pullets and roos bring that are about 5 months old? I need to sell some if I could talk Joe into it. He wants to take them all to Cookeville in September. I would care to sell some if they were bringing decent $$. But I was told that the chicken market had really dropped.
