Kentucky people

Well I survived my first week back to work at Wally World. Although I swear it must be a full moon or the meteor showers are making people wacko! The last couple of days have been rough at the store.

Anyway, went to feed everyone today, and heard a new chick peeping sound. Sure enough Liza Jane has hatched one baby so far, cutest little tiny fluff butt! She hurried up outside of the nest long enough to snatch some of the salad I tossed them, then back in the nest she went. So I am hoping there will be more silky babies tomorrow or the next day. Guess I'm gonna have to build another pen or add on to the current one so that they have more room or seperate out the older chicks from the younger ones. The partridge hen I got at SANO has finally been accepted into the flock and is mingling with the other silkies.

It seems both of my barred rock hens want to go broody on me. I hope not, got to keep egg production up.

Well I'm glad I didn't breed my new doe to one of my bucks. Went out to check on everybody this morning before feeding and restrawing the nest boxes and there were 4 new baby bunnies! Turns out she had already been bred and there are two black and white and two blue and white babies!

So I quickly made an impromptu nest box for her and the babies. So I now have 12 bunnies! Guess I better get busy and build some more hutches.

Haven't had the chance to check and see if there are more silky babies yet, though.

and yes, I feel sort of stupid crying over a chicken... but I am anyway

it might not be so hard if he had been sick or if some critter had gotten him - but he was fine, and nothing harmed him at all - not a mark on him. He just didn't wake up this morning. At least if he had been sick I could have prepared myself for it.

Actually today was a good day not to have her wings clipped because the cat Cortni is taking to college with her followed us back to the pen this morning. And as BC was getting close to the gate to check her out I think the cat growled because next thing we knew birds were flying everywhere and Cleo ended up in the tree. So I know now she will be able to get away from a ground pred.

No, Mr. Speckles needed another home - and he is with his girls who he's been with for so long. I am just upset because I need a reason for Mr. Feathers to die, ya know? I mean, I suppose it's a good death for him (if ya got to go, go in your sleep and make it a sudden thing) but for me, I'd like to know why.

Plus, I feel badly for Moonflowers and her hubby, because they have to lose him, also.

He was such a nice rooster too - naughty little boy sometimes (he would always try to steal my cigarette if I had one in my hand.) But so pretty and sweet tempered.

I have a lot of chickens, but some are more special than others I guess.

Well they will be 4 weeks old at the time of Chickenstock, is that old enough to seperate them from their mom?

I'm not sure? What age do they wean? I'm thinking it's either 4 or 6 weeks, but I'm not sure.

ETA: I'm thinking it might be 8 weeks for weaning? But I'm not sure. I've not had babies for a loooooooooooooooong time!
