I'm glad she went peacefully in her sleep, in a comfortable spot.

I don't know if it's pregnancy hormones or I'm just too soft hearted but your pictures made me cry!

I still feel sad over the loss of my dachshund doggie. She died 5 years ago. There are just some dogs that come into your life that can never be replaced. It sounds like your Amy was one of those dogs! I have two more dogs now and I love them, but they just aren't quite the same as my Duchess.

I should have taken a picture of those huddled chicks! One ran from me and I had the hardest time catching it in the garage, it kept hiding under all the shelves. One of the chicks is so goofy looking...I'll take a picture of it tomorrow. It has a few feathers of a crest on top its head and for muffs it has these two huge odd shaped poofs on its cheeks, and its comb is a combination of a v-comb and a straight comb...looks kind of like its wearing a crown on its forehead!

Cindy, I know how you feel, but like you said, she went peacefully at home and not scared at the vets. People who don't have pets can never understand why those of us that have them cry and grieve over losing one.

Well I have some good news. I got a promotion at work yesterday(Friday) and am going full time at Wally World. I'll be working third shift starting Sunday night. Got a nice pay raise with it as well. So that means that I'll have my days somewhat freer to do things.

Finally got all but two of the windows on the house covered in plastic Saturday on the outside. Still have to finish the windows on the inside and three doors. Still have to get out the heavy drapes for the bedroom windows and the heavier blankets for the bed.

I also managed to put a fresh layer of bedding down in the two chicken runs, just have a small section left to cover in the big run and that should take care of them for a while. With the help of a neighbor I managed to get all but one of the rabbit cages moved under the canopy. The one remaining one is in the big chicken coop and some of the hens use it to roost on at night. Hopefully I will be able to finish the moving of cages and the coop inside the big run this week while the weather is still good.

I'm sorry about Amy, Cindy, but you're right, it probably was better that she went at home, where she felt loved and safe.

I put the bottle babies out with the older calves yesterday afternoon - it was just too darn muddy in their pen. They didn't have enough dry area to mingle very well.

Camille started chasing them (trying to be dominant, but still, they are just babies,) so I put her out with the donkeys. It's a bit of a pain in the butt at feeding time, but it is nice having her out there with more room, also. At feeding time I have to let her into the area by the barn, so she can eat in peace (so the donkeys don't steal her food). Then I have to wait so I can let her back out. I'm considering putting Mookie out there, too - since those two are staying here, and they need to get used to the donkeys anyway.

I only have two bottle babies left on full milk yet - the other two only get one bottle at night, and last night was supposed to be the last night for it, but it got so cold, I'm gonna give them a bottle tonight so they have something warm in their tummies before bedtime.

At least it stopped raining!! I can take the cold, but I am so sick of rain I could scream. (actually, I'm sick of MUD).

Well, I just had to cull a rir pullet.

I heard Toby outside on the porch, so I figured he wanted in, opened the door, and walked out, he was looking into the yard - so I looked also, and a hawk had the pullet down on the ground. Toby barked and it let go and flew off, the pullet ran to the coop porch - but it was bleeding really badly, so I put it down. The hawk had torn its leg open in a big gash - no stomach wounds that I could see, but the pullet was in shock. It had lost a lot of blood in the short time it took me to go out there to check on it.

dang hawks - we have a pair of them (I think they are nesting down in our woods) and they make enough noise when hunting you'd think the chickens would get the idea to run. Well, actually almost all of them did, the pullet, I guess, just got caught out too far in the yard to get to safety. The rest of the birds (chickens, ducks and geese) all had good hiding spots - garage, back of coop, barn, etc... Well, I lost a chicken and the hawk didn't even get dinner.

Let's hope he doesn't come back for another try (although I'm sure he will

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have an old dog myself that has been my best friend since I brought her home as a pup. She is going blind and is loosing her hearing. She understands our language. She is very obedient and loving. Just a great dog. Everytime I think of loosing her it brings tears to my eyes. I can clearly understand how you feel. This is my dog Sissy. She is 12 years old. When I got her I was told she was part fox part coyote. In my opinion, there is chow in there somewhere because she has a purple tongue and the mane in winter.

Thank you all for your kind words on our loss of Amy. Cortni and I agreed it was also alot easier on us this way as well cause we don't have to take her in the morning and watch her go.

I agree. I just hope my Sissy goes that way too. I don't want to have to have her put to sleep. That is such a hard decision to make. Every time I think aobut having to do it I cry. I would have to be with her of course and I would be a mess by the time it was over and for a long time after. She has some years left in her yet. Winter is hard on her artheritis in her hips though. I'll have to make her some steps so she can get on her couch. Yeah, she has her own couch. When DH is gone overnight, she sleeps with me in his spot. If our room was big enough, I would but her a bed in there so she could be near me at night but since the floor is too hard for her I have to close her out so she will go to her couch.

Midget is a mama!!!

Kind of a good thing, but she is so young, it really aggravates me

She had 5 pups today, and she is barely a year old. The daddy is one of Tiny's pups, and he's maybe 9 months old now. Dad was a dumba$$ and didn't do anything with the male when Midget came in, thinking the male was too young to do anything...apparently not.

But anyway, she has (I was told) 4 females and 1 male, most of them are black and white right now, but a couple have reddish heads. I'll bet they will be some pretty pups! Midget is very tiny, and has shorter ears than she should. Jughead is long in the body, but has nice ears. So hopefully they'll even-out and be some nice babies

ETA: They are so super tiny, it is unbelievable! I'm really surprised she had so many, I was thinking maybe 2 or 3. She wasn't very big belly-wise. So anyone interested in some 'allmost pure' beagle pups, we'll have some in a few months, just in time for Christmas!!
