Kentucky people

bluegoose.. welcome I am new here too. I just saw pheasant eggs on ebay of all places. I have bought Faverolle eggs there from a hatchery and they are on day 11 now and 7-16 are progressing well in incubator. I did check to be sure the hatchery was a clean reputable one. They wrapped eggs very well and shipped them quickly. I would try someone on here first though since they are probably easier to drive and pick up and you would know the conditions of transport.

Trimble County reporting in! We hadn't had chickens in years but took the plunge last week. 6 Australorps,5 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Silver-Laced Wyandottes. Both of us forgot how much fun(and work)raising chicks can be. Little critters are already eating from my hand!

Hi all, I have a question. Does anyone here raise geese? I've got a goose that is not acting right. She was fine this morning, but when she came home from the pond (earlier than usual), she is walking weird, like she is unsure of her footing; shaking her head; droopy wings. I was thinking maybe egg-bound, but that wouldn't explain the head-shaking. Some have suggested maybe bad/medicated feed, but I don't buy medicated and the feed is put out fresh daily. Unless she found something stashed somewhere? She never goes into the fields next door. Then another suggested maybe she was kicked by one of the horses? Which could be possible, she has to go through the pasture to get to the pond, and the horses were being stupid today. I just really don't know, she is my first goose, I have 3 others now, but I always thought they were pretty hardy birds? The only other thing I can think of is that we've had a pair of canada geese hanging out on our pond for a week or so, I don't know if maybe they have something they could have passed to her? Any ideas?

So many variables it's hard to say. With everything greening up here in Kentucky it's possible she may have eaten some of a plant that intoxicated her. I'd check with your vet or local Extension Office and ask about that.

In the meantime, if you can handle her, gently touch/probe her head and body and see if she shows sign of tender or sore areas that might indicate she was injured by a horse or?????.

How this helps.

I'm hanging in there, and no I didn't move. I'm staying here for the time being. I will continue to look for a suitable property but closer in to Louisville. 125 miles was a bit too much to drive on a Sunday morning for Church.

Welcome to all the newbies.

FINALLY some decent weather!! Yeah!

Our 2 RIR's started laying a week ago. The kids got a very special episode of chicken TV today. About 6pm Boldy grabbed a snake, maybe 10" long. I think it was a youngish copperhead, but not much chance to examine. Very fun chase ensued as the snake changed beaks many times, always with the head firmly in someone's beak. Finally Hawk managed to toss it down. Man I didn't know just how fast our pet velociraptors were!!
