Hey Meri, do you have a close-up of Double And Trouble? How big are they? What breed are they? If you have close-ups of their combs and legs, that would be great. They look a lot like my Gertrude, and I can't figure out what she is!! I was told she was an egyptian fayoumis (sp?) mix, but she has black legs, 5 toes per foot, and a rose comb, I think. It's the kind that is flat on the head, with a point in the back. If you do have these, PLEASE show me!! I am so stumped on what she is!!
We had the scare of our lives this morning!! My stupid dog, Baby, got off her chain this morning. She is the confirmed chicken killer. She really likes the little ones. She had torn into my mama hen's cage, and scared them about half to death!! Thank God she didn't see the baby japs and silkies!! Their tractor was covered with plastic, and I guess she saw the mamas with babies first. Good thing, or she would have probably killed all of them!! I am going to get a thick piece of chain tomorrow when I go to town, and tie her to the tree. She had an electric post, bent in half, and pushed into the ground. She pulled it up!! And she is only about 7 months old!! She is too strong! I just hate to get rid of her...who would want a hyper, chicken killing dog?? As far as I can tell, everyone is present and accounted for, so I think we're ok for now. I tried to count my dutch's babies. I must have counted 10 times. I got 17 a few times, 18 a few times,, and 19 once...She is supposed to have 18, so I think they're all there. How was the bug zapping show? Nice pics btw...Post some more!! What about the bab japs? haven't seen any of them yet!!

Heya -

Double and Trouble are birchen oegb pullets. I got them with Stevie Ray from Cindy. I don't have close ups, but I can get some, they have the regular 4 toes. I'd say they are probably a little bigger than my other oegb pullets - maybe 6 inches tall.

I thought about the Japs this morning when I had the camera out, but they hadn't come out of the coop yet, and it is darker in there, more places to hide, LOL. I'll get some pics of them, though, and post those, too.

Glad your babies are all right!! That would scare me too. I had Nana out back and Miss Celie joined us for some treats (since no one else was around, silly hen - she is my woods chicken, won't go near the others anymore) and the cat came around the corner. LOL now, this cat is 17+ years old, half blind and half senile, but I swatted at her anyway, and I connected with the poor girl's nose, LOL I don't think I've seen her since then. She is probably hiding under my bed.

Well, I get to clean house today - what Fun!!

Big Sigh - would rather go play with my chickens -

Yeah, they actually held still long enough to grab a shot, LOL. They are fitting in pretty well, now. Not nearly as much thumping each other as in the beginning.

This moring, actually, Stevie had the perch, and Little Man flew up there, and Stevie knocked him off, LOL. Little Man just looked up at him like "Well screw you, too" and then walked away.

I'm gla they are getting along better, I was worried for awhile I might have to put a line down the center of the chicken run, LOL - "ok, this is Your side, and this is Your side, be nice!!"

Ms. Lewis Rich :

Would the Kentucky person that wanted some Copper eggs get in touch, My Marans just started laying. I want to know if they are fertile. ( I forgot who it was)
Karen

Hey Karen, I wasn't the one but I just put some eggs in the bator last night to check fertility on my Millies, if you want to send a few of yours I'll add them too. Where are you located? Cindy
ETA: I want a couple of BLRW pullets....

Meri, I lost one of my baby silkies I got the other day...
sad.png
It just wouldn't drink and the other one kept pushing it to the water , and I would hold it by the water and dip it's beak so it got some and I gave it a Polyvisol drop 3 times a day, but it just wouldn't drink. It ate fine though. So anyway, now the other one has a cow for a brooder mate that Layne donated to it. I had to promise to wash it afterward though.

Awww, that's too bad on your baby.
All of the ones I got from you are doing great and the Japs I got from shelley are doing good, too.

I'm assuming you mean a stuffed cow, LOL not a real live cow<g> That would be a picture - and I'd have to ask how ya got a cow in your basement.

Peace -

hey chiknmama! Guess what? Bertha has BABIES!!! We checked her this morning, after we figured out that we didn't see her big booty running around the yard yesterday. She had 3 or 4 then, out of 9 total. so she has 4 or 5 left. We found one that had pipped, but couldn't get out of the shell. 'Her' babies are all RIRs from dad's other chickens!! We had stolen all her eggs for the other hens, when they started setting. Woohoo!

WOOHOO!!!!

I bet she'll make a great mama. I can't wait to see mine running around with babies!!! Little fluffy featherballs being herded by a big fluffy featherball.

I have this other chicken - I haven't much idea what she is (I think it's a she, LOL) I'll have to get a pic of her and post it, to see if anyone can give a guess - looks sort of like a modern game, but has a rosecomb - another mutt, no doubt. We call her Loretta, because she aint sure what she is either - heard her crow once or twice.

Peace -
Meri

I think some of the game breeds have rose combs, but not sure on that. Bertha is the stupidest mother hen i have ever seen!! She hatched 4 hiks, one died after pipping. Dad went to check her, and she was off the nest, with all 4 babies in there crying!! And guess what she was doing? EATING!!! I swear, that bird acts like she is starved to death CONSTANTLY!!! After we stole the other eggs ( two of which had pips on them) she went back to the nest, but if she gets off again without her babies, I'm gonna steal her babies and put them in the brooder with the guineas!! One of her babies wasn't even dry yet! Oh and these aren't her babies technially. We had stolen all her eggs when the other hens started setting. The day Bertha started, she had laid one egg. Dad had just gathered his eggs from his pen, and put some of them under her. Her chicks are: 1 RIR (looks pure), one RIR (probably mixed), one that looks like the SLW, and one that looks like whatever his white chikens are. So far anyway! There are still 3 eggs that I put in the bator, and 2 of those are pipped and peeping!! Wish them luck!
