Yeah, I'll still be hatching, but I want delawares, so I'm gonna buy pullet chicks, then hatch my own eggs when they are old enough to lay and breed. Plus, I'll be hatching out the mutts, too (and the giant cochins, and the bantam cochins, etc...) I just want to make sure I have the amount of hens (delawares) that I need, then, I can hatch my own from my own stock.

I think that even if your dad got rid of some of the roos, it would help his egg production - he has a lot of roos, and the last girlies I got from him have featherless backs, so you know they are bothered pretty badly by the boys.

They're great hens, though, very nice natured, and starting to show their personalities more.

today I went in and one rock was laying in the nest, so I waited, and she didn't get up, so I said "You got eggs under there?" and she stood up, stayed in place while I grabbed the two eggs, and then laid back down to do her business

.

They're very low key hens, really mellow ladies. Well, if any of them are a bit strong personality it would be Eleanor (the brahma) but even she is nice - just lets you know what she wants, and that she wants it NOW

. I can't wait to move them to bigger quarters so they have more room to get around. Should be able to move them in at least a couple of weeks.

I took them some leftovers tonight, and they went insane over them.
they got stuffing and a baked sweet potato, and probably some other stuff mixed in there. The baked sweet potato was the first thing attacked.

The cochins got the other baked sweet potato, and the layers and George got the turkey carcass - they're the only ones I know for sure will clean it up completely. Don't want it getting nasty in the coop.

Anyway, Hubby says I ought to not buy shipped eggs anymore, cause of the cost and the probability of scrambling/temp probs in shipping. That's fine, as long as he lets me buy my delaware babies, then I'll just hatch my own or from you and Cindy (or places I can pick them up personally.)

Yeah, I don't blame him for not wanting shipped eggs. I haven't had much luck with the ones I've gotten. The buttons even didn't do that well, it was just that I got so many to begin with.

Dad is supposedly going to 'get rid' of some of his roos, if he ever gets around to it. He's gonna get rid of all the white roos, and 2 of the SLW. He has finally gotten his standard 'chick' roos that were running around terrorizing my hens put in a pen. I wish he'd get the rest of the standards put up.

I'm thinking I might just go ahead and take my game roos to the sale next time we go. I really don't need them, and since dad's roos are put up, mine have decided to start the terrorizing.

Oh, it was so funny the other day! I had told Cris to catch that one (BSL? BR?) roo of dad's, cause he wouldn't quit bothering my girls. He chased him all over the yard and couldn't get him. Then on Wed., I think, that roo was inside the building eating some corn, and Cris snuck up right behind him and grabbed him by the tail!!

I was laughing my butt off!! Cris said 'Mommy, I got him dat time!!'

Oh yeah, I lost one of my millie babies today

I saw Gertie outside with them, and there was only 2 millies with her. I went into the building to look, thinking it had gotten seperated. I could hear a baby cheeping, but I guess it was Gretta's baby. That poor little millie baby had fell into a bucket of water I had forgotten in there

Poor thing, I felt so bad. I still do. I'm so sorry Cindy!!

Hey check out craiglist louisville under farm& garden. Somebody is selling his flock of 9 hens and 1 rooster and I think he also has a couple of bantams there too. He lives in Sonoma, KY

He says his birds are under 1 year old and that the pullets are laying already.

Oh!! He and my OEBG splash hen would make a cute couple, dontcha think??

That's too bad about the millie baby

We all make dumb mistakes like that, though. I lost Aretha because of my own mistake.

Are the blue splash I have oegb? I thought they were dutch or serama or something. (and what exactly goes into creating a "serama" ? inquiring minds want to know).

Okay, here is the add as it appears on Craigslist - louisville

I have a laying flock of 9 hens, 1 cock, and 4 chicks that are about a month old. I need to sell them asap. The flock consists of Buff Orpingtons and Easter Egg pullets. All are under a year old, Most started laying about 2 months ago, I cant give the eggs away quick enough. Also have a pair of Bantam Rhode Island Red's. They are show quality, very nice birds, the pullet just started laying this week. They are of very good type with good deep color all the way to the skin with no speckling on the wings. I would like to sell these to someone that would be interested in showing them and not just letting them run around and ruin their type. If interest please give me a call at 270-268-9656 THANKS JAMES

Just in case anybody is interested in it. Especially nice for those people wanting to increase their egg layer flocks! (Hint- hint-)
