Kentucky people

Hi all. I have not been on for what about a week.
Man have I been busy.

I have worked quite a bit last week. And the one day off I built another chicken house. My husband had started it on Saturday. He built it off of a large skid. When I got it, it was like a skid with a propped up roof. So I spent about a day bracing and working with it. It turned out pretty nice. It is a 2 roomer. I still need to fix nesting boxes but there is already chickens in it. I will try to get pictures later in the week.
And we have hatched out another 80 chickies. I have 3 silkies in the mix. They are sooo cute. Lets see. We have cochins, brahmas, barred rocks, white leghorns and rr reds.
I just love Spring. And I am on vacation next week.

Well, I was gonna go to Sano this friday but....

Turns out my truck problem is the rear end differential - gonna cost me almost a 1000 bucks to fix, and the guys who do that are in Indy this week for extra training - so it'll be next week before I get my truck back

The guy said the gears were all broken and sheered off in there - lucky I made it to the fix it shop, I guess.

But - it'll be fixed good as new when I get it back, and ready to go haul me some sand for that chicken run, and anything else I need (more lumber, probably).

My chicken run looks almost as bad as Shelleys dad's run did last fall. It is slowly drying out a little today, but still - the white chickens in there are filthy (so all the eggs they are laying are dirty

Man, I want my truck back .... I love that truck.

Momma always warned me to beware of whistling and truck driving women. Said they'd only get me in trouble!

And yes Silkies make excellent mothers once they go broody. They are probably some of the best surrogate mothers around.

Oh, btw - my baby I didn't think would make it - he was still belly up this afternoon, so I figured out he was having trouble with his legs. Spraddle leg? So I took him out of the hatcher and put a twist tie on his legs

probably didn't do it right - supposed to use a bandaid? anyway, he is doing a lot better - I took it off and I guess a few hours to get some strength in them was all he needed. He is still a bit wobbly, but he is upright and getting around ok.

I've only used bandaids, but there are some that say they use pipe cleaners? A twist tie would work just fine, the pipe cleaners and bandaids are just used since it's supposed to be a day or so that you leave them on. But hey, whatever works, right?

Today is day 21 for my latest batch of eggs in the bator, so far no pips, peeps or whatever. I've monitored the temps, humidity, turned everything like I was supposed to. Flowerpot is coming over today to check them out for me.

I forgot to go for my eligibilty review last week at the UI office, so I went today and had it done. Found out that there were a total of 3 extensions, a 13 week, a 7 week, and then another 13 week extension, for a total of 54 weeks of collecting UI. Also to make it easier on the state workers they now have extended the review period from 6 weeks to 12 weeks. So I get to collect for another 13 weeks.

Got turned down for my disability, so sent that paperwork to my attorney to process and file an appeal.

I now have 10 eggs in the nest box and hopefully something will come of that. And my 7 large breed babies will be 14 weeks old on Wednesday, doesn't seem that long ago they were cute little fluff butts!

Happy St. Paddy's Day everybody, don't forget to wear some green today!
