Kentucky people

Hey Meri... You need that cage back yet? Does that guy that makes them show up at Sano every week? I may have to get one just for transportation purposes if I need to take a girlie anywhere... Or get another one to sneak in the coop

Am planning on brining it to Sano but can't this week or next because the kids have another meet coming up on the 21st, Layne needs all the practice he can get and unfortunately the practices are in the evenings 5:45 to 7:00 m,t,th,& f.

Cortni and I finally found the other chicken breed she really liked and I have a feeling it won't be easy to find a Java pullet...

I need to snap some pics of the new hatch I just had - some of them are from George's coop (I don't usually incubate his girls's eggs) - so they are sort of pretty.

Been used to seeing white and black chickies for so long -a little color is exciting

You know Meri, there could be things way back that could scare folks off...

I ought to be doing stuff - lots of stuff - but I'm just sitting here

been cruising Youtube, watched some Tim Hawkins vids (he is funny

) and thinking about all the stuff I ought to be doing....

I meant to pick up another bin yesterday when Shelley and I went to Walmart, but I forgot. My barred rock chickies are a bit crowded. The reds are ok for space, but I have all the rest (br) in two bins - big bins (45 gallon) but still, that's a lot of babies in there.

I am using the playpen as a hospital coop - still have a couple of heat issue birds in the garage where it is more open and cooler. They're doing pretty well, but that coop gets so stuffy and hot (and it is dusty and needs cleaning) poor babies.

I'm thinking of clearing it out today and taking all the ones in there to Sano, gutting the coop and putting in fresh straw and then I can move the babies out there sooner. It is certainly warm enough for chicks during the day - and at night I could close the pop door and hold in the heat (I have a heat lamp if I absolutely had to run it.) I am thinking by two weeks they ought to be able to go out to that coop.

Hmmm, I do have the 4 ducklings in that coop too

I'll have to get them moved to the duck pen before I put little chicks in there.

Speaking of duckies,

I have to tell ya, the mallards are the smartest bunch of the ducks that I have, I think. I put Kronk and his girls back into the pen this morning, after they came out to have a dip in the pool, and when I had them in, the mallards came out (from hiding) and gathered around my feet looking at me with that sideways head look and it almost seemed like they were saying "Thanks"

The poor babies have been bothered by Kronk lately, too. The male mallard is moulting, so he is gonna have his Big Boy look soon. I can't wait

They were sold to me as gray calls, but I think they are more mallard than call ducks - a little bigger than Joe, even, and he is sort of on the big side for a call duck.

I don't care, though, because I wouldn't have bought Mallards if I had known that was what they were, and it turns out that I adore those funny little ducks.

The lady with the food stuff (preserves and veggies) her hubby makes cages and she sells them there. I haven't seen the other older guy who sold them out there for a bit. But other folks have cages, too.

I already got a bull calf who head butts me every time he sees me, cause he thinks I'm his mama - tried to tell him he isn't gonna get any milk from my hind end, but he rams me in the butt anyway.

Good thing he doesn't have any horns yet

True - good thing we don't have video message boards - I'd hate to see how some folks look when they hop online at midnight or early in the morning or such...

I know I would easily frighten small children at that time of day.
