Naahh! you are not addicted yet. Wait until you start wondering just how you got into being a slave to your livestock and not having any free time because of your "hobby". When you cannot leave your house for more than 24 hours for fear of neglecting your babies. Then you "may" be addicted.

Anybody else have any hints as to wheither you might be addicted to chickens?

estpr13... thanks for the Welcome! I am now in day 5 of my faverolle incubation. I saw the "spider looking" effect in one of my eggs yesterday when I candled . I think I saw another with a smaller "spider " look. I saw 7 eggs with a dark circlular mass (hoping a yoke that is growing into chick) , but couldnt make out veins yet. 1 twin yoker that I am not to optimistic about but trying anyway. 2 or 3 are fairly clear I think and I might have one red ring... I am not 100% sure I know what the heck I am looking at. LOL I am crossing my fingers and addicted to watching these little eggs. I will candle again in a couple days to see if I am getting a better look at what is going on in those shells. Any adivise appreciated.

Hello ememeanie! You will really enjoy the Faverolles - they are my favorite breed. Are yours standard or bantam? I have some 8 month old Salmon Faverolles and some 4 week old Blue Salmon and White Faverolles. Where did you get your eggs?

pop57... now my curiousity has the best of me.... apparently you know exactly where these chickens came from. Is Roland your dad? Or friend? Anyway, I am interested in some black Moran hatching eggs but I want to wait until after this Faverolle hatch is complete. I want to be certain I am doing everything correctly and make adjustments to my incubator accordingly. I think my husbands office is close to Koi shop. (sign place/kywifi) Roland didnt know much about the chickens other than he got them from his son and Rosetta told me they were White Morans. From there I have researched them. My kids love them and they are so funny. I think there is one that, on occassion, will eat an egg so I am putting wooden eggs in with them. Any suggestions?

thechickonthehill... The Salmon Faverolles are standard. We ordered our eggs from mccallumsflock.com. They were shipped from texarcanna. I loved the pics of them...They are just so darn cute! I hear they are gentle too. I am on day 5 in the incubator so a bit early yet!

I have eggs in the incubator (also on day 5) right now too, but not Faverolles this time. I'm not going to candle until day 10. Sending good hatching vibes your way!

I would add some oyster shell to their diet, or get layer pellets that should help. I am Roland son. What kind of incubator are you using? whats the humidity %? turning every 4 hours until day 18?

I am using a homemade incubator, cooler style. I have been turning them between 3-5 times per day on a schedule. I am making sure I turn them at least 3 times per day. I have a hard time turning them more than that on the days that I have school/work... sometimes it is hard to get in the extra turns. At first I had problems with humidity flexing between 40-70% but that was just the first day or two now it is doing pretty good at around 60 % when it starts to dip I add warm water through a tube on the side of the bator. I know I am supposed to increase it the last few days to 65-70 % I candled them on day four... they seem like they are doing well for the most part.. I have a few questionable ones but I will candle them again in a few days. Good to know more about where the Morans came from. I have wanted some for a while but I wasn't quite ready until your dad brought them over lol . Then it was research city. How old are they? They see me coming a mile away and come out as soon as I start heading back to them.
