Kentucky

I live between Shelbyville and Lawrenceburg, but work in Louisville. I got started in chickens about a year ago and am now over run with them. But, there are worse addictions. Still looking for bantam sumatras..............

I lived in Louisville from Oct 2002 till Oct 2005. I liked it at first, then grew to hate the crowds and traffic. I now live so deep in the country my nearest neighbor is over 400yards away. I can now count the number of cars that pass by my house on only two hands......on a busy day. That includes the school bus twice and the mail lady.

I don't think of Louisville as a big city. I wouldn't want to live there. Too crowded, but I do enjoy visiting, and I love my job, but hate the commute. Almost an hour each way.

I have lots of bantams.

Polish - wc black & blue, buff, silver, and gold laced
Ameraucanas - wheaten & blue wheaten
Modern game - red pyle & black
OEG - selfblue, silver duckwing, black
Turkens - black & white
Wyandotte - silver laced
Cochins - black, partridge, blue, white
D'uccles - mille fleur
Silkies - white, blue, black, partridge, buff, splash
Phoenix - golden

All the above are bantams.

In standards I have

OEG - Grey Pitt
Jersey Giants - blue, black, splash
Polsh - Wc Black

Also have button quail, bob white quail, ring neck pheasants

4 horses, 3 dogs, 25 cats, 2 goats

I'm new to the site and relatively new to chickenry. I live in Crestwood, Kentucky (Oldham County). I had my first egg this week and I don't know what I celebrated the most - that or that my chicken's growth rate seems to have slowed down. They are eating machines. If they lay like they eat - eggs would have to fall from the sky.

Born and raised in Alabama, but I spent a couple of years in Hop Town. Beautiful country up there! Made some wonderful friends too. I had a friend who's daughter lived in Russell springs. Also had friends near Elkton. Living near Amish people was a new joy for me!! They are such an amazing dedicated bunch!

We live in Louisville, just off the Watterson Expressway. Have 4 chickens: a White Rock, Partridge Rock, Black Jersey Giant, and Buff Orpington. Our neighbors are intrigued!
