kepping rats out

rates ripped part of the wing of my chick off and ate another one. i sprinkled hot sauce around the doors if the coop and what not to se if they will stay away ! Will it work ? what keep them away !

I am having the same problem. Get your chicks away or they will eat them all. They ate my adult quails,a good # of chicks and a couple of adult broody Silkies.
I ordered a trap to catch them but they dont seem smart enough to push into the multi catch door. If it ever works I will post the results. Its suppose to hold up to 15 or so rats at a time. Other than that I cant help you. A neighbor told me to back the car up and pipe the exhaust under the floor boards...I havent tried that one.

That's terrible! I use 1/2" hardware cloth to keep chicks safe. Anything bigger and rats can get in. You can use traps or poison. I think that's about it for options, other than a cat or dog that likes to go after them.
