We have 6 khaki campbells that are supposed to be hens but we have at least one that has been mounting the others. They do this when they are let out of their house. They head to the hot water heater drip pan that we use as a water pan. They all get in and it seems that one if not two mounts the others. They have been doing this for several weeks now. They were born May 27th. They all look the same except two appear to be half crested, one of which this morning was the mounter.

Any ideas? At first I thought it was just establishing a pecking order but now am not sure.

Yep you are right, they do it to establish the pecking order.Mine did it all the time which I though was really gross but its normal.

I don't know about this pecking order thing. With mine it looks like whoever wants "it"

more does the squatting and the others try to mount. Who is squatting and who is mounting changes all the time.
