Kidney stones and more/Update 11/15

The pain is worse than childbirth. When I went to the hospital they gave me a torodol
shot and the pain went away. Insist on getting a prescription. I carried my prescription
around for years until the pills turned to powder afraid to be caught without a pain killer
incase another kidney showed up. I've had a D&C without anesthesia and tolerated that
okay, a kidney stone whole other story. Get your torodol before the pain starts.

my hubby makes kidneystones by the dozen... you have my sympathies! there are different kinds - some are smooth, some are spikey, and they can be made of different minerals. what kind you have will matter to preventing more. for instance some (oxalic based?) are generated by things like alfalfa - so if you have those you want to stay away from any "greens" suplement that has afalfa in it. ask your doc if they want to check the stone you pass to determine the type.

My hubby often mis-identifies the symptoms, in fact, we've decided that the surest sign it IS a kidney stone is that he says "my back hurts and I'm sure it's not a kidney stone."
because he makes lots of them, we've learned some things that seem to help.
1) DON'T get dehydrated. LOTS and LOTS of fluids every day.
2) apple juice, cranberry juice, cran grape in large quantities (two 2-liter bottles a day) seem to disolve the points off the stones a bit - this is good as he makes the little spike-ball ones and they slice stuff as they go by. when he knows he's got one on the move he starts on the juice and keeps drinking it until it passes - usually 1 to 2 days.
3) he's started taking a natural suplement that is supposed to support testosterone production... not sure that it's cause and effect, but within a week he passed about 2 dozen stones, all of them less spikey than typical.
4) jumping off things (like out of the back of his pickup) seems to jar them loose, he'll frequently have stones move within a day of jumping off something.

sometimes a stone is an isolated incident, but for some folks they're chronic. hope this is just a one-off for you.

Cranberry Juice, cran-grape any type of Cran something juice. Once it passes, the relief is instantanious and you will know it!!!!! I hurt so bad one time I could not even sit in the car to go to the DR, had a friend drive me and I laid in the back seat, every tiny little divit in the road made me scream. She must have been a really really good friend to put up with me screaming 40 miles to the Dr and back and we are still friends.
Hope you feel better soon.

I live about an hour from everyone I can call. The last one I called my mother to come get me and take me to the ER. About 15 minutes later (this was after a good strong two hours of agony) I broke down and called the ambulance company down the street. They start pushing some really happy drugs before they even leave your house. By the time we got out of my driveway I knew the kidney stones were still there, but I really didn't care anymore. I do remember telling the paramedic that he was my new best friend.

The problem with drinking lots and lots of water is that sometimes the problem comes from the local water. Our water is full of calcium and lime, both kidney stone troublemakers. Even my cats have had trouble with urinary tract issues due to the water. The vet told me to use bottled water for them.

Ok. I have done the kidney stone thing way to many times to count. It can be as bad as childbirth without the kid to show for it. Drink as much as you can to help push the stone through. I am hoping a X-ray was done to determine stone size as that can dictate wether you can even pass it. It would also show the amount of stones you have in your kidney to help determine if further treatment would be needed. Unfortunately for me I can now walk into the ER and tell them why I am there and almost exactly where the stone is lodged. A quick check and some pain meds and I go home to pass it. I wish you lots of luck. Believe it or not, it actually helps me to be upright and moving around. Sorry to anyone who has to deal with these cause they are awful.

I got them 4 years ago. Middle of the night, had to pee and couldn't. My back hurt, I tried to man up, but wow! It was 3 AM, didn't want to freak the kids so I drove myself to the hospital. By the time I got there I was green with pain. They gave me morphine and then knocked me out. They had to do a basket retrieval. Think of a water hazzard golf ball thingy. That went in the end of my ****. Then I woke up and they had to leave a stint in to keep the tube from the kidney to the bladder open.
Went in after 10 days and the Dr. removed the stint. It was like a 14" cord. In the same way again- ouch, that smarts! He yanked it out like he was starting a lawnmower. I about hit the ceiling! I was like "did you have to pull it out that fast?"
The Dr. looked at me and said "would you prefer I did it slowly?"
"No, that'll be fine, thank you very much."
Ever since I drink about a quart of Crystal Light a day as mine were caused by low citrate levels. No problems since, thank the Lord!

I feel like I'm getting sick again. Did anyone of you get the loosey gooseys, bad bloating, dizzy, nausea, and vomiting? That's how it started last time. My sil said she did too. I've been waiting since Monday for the clinic to call back about the CAT scan he ordered.

So I went and had a CAT scan and went back the the doctor. Yep kidney stones. But with the bonus of diverticulosis (pouches in the colon) probably caused by the initial attack. Still not quite back up to snuff. But while I was there I asked for a tetanus booster. I had been meaning to because it had been 14 years since my last one. Yes I do remember that one clearly because I had stepped on a sewing needle. One that you use to sew denim with. Nice and thick. Had to call my sis to come over from across town and pull it out. Had no problems with the shot. But omg this shot is a whole different story. It didn't hurt at all. But it got sore. And last night it really hurt. I could barely move my arm. I had to have my hubby help me put the sheets on our daughters bed. I can type but even my hubby said that the kids were doing the dishes today. Have any of you had such pain after a tetanus shot. I still have a few pain pills from the kidney stones so I went ahead and took one.

My arm got really stiff and sore for a few days after my last tetanus. I got a mmr booster after I had my 2 year old, and that thing made every joint in my body sore as can be for a few days, hurt worse than recovering from having my daughter. Hope you get better soon. I had to have a stent put in for other kidney issues and ended up having to keep it in for over a year because of pregnancy. It gave me kidney stones and infections monthly at minimum. Was the most painful thing I've ever been through.
