Kids, our newest predator

Also wondering why some action wasn't taken sooner, and why the OP referred to them as "saucy". I really cannot believe how little respect some children, as well as adults, have for other people's belongings or property. I'd ask "What is this world coming to?", but the more important question is "What are we going to do to stop it?"

When someone posts about problem kids, you can bet the "future serial killer" posts are not far behind...LOL.

As a boy, we shot many a songbird with BB guns. On the sly of course!!
And other mischief as well.
With punishment and maturity boys grow out of this stage.
We're 7 mild mannered gents now, not one crazed killer among us!

Sure, the boys deserve severe consequences for their actions, but lets not condemn them to prison just yet.

1. The issue is trespassing and killing domesticated animals, not building forts and throwing rocks.
2. Anything other than an open palm on the bottom not hard enough to leave a remaining mark is considered child abuse, at least here in California.
3. Gender stereotypes are passe.

SSS is the way many of us handle predators that injure or kill our chickens or other livestock. It's a very old and time-honored tradition. Shoot,Shovel and Shut-up!

Oh, I know what it means; I just didn't know if it was applicable in this situation, being new and all

Been watching this thread and I have read through the entire thing.

Ranchie and Katy---

Hit the nail on the head.

Couple points I would like to see if we can clear up.

A lake was mentioned, in the way it was mentioned I could not determine if it was the OP's private lake, a public accessed lake, or a lake that's ownership was shared by residents of the area. Point is, if the ducks were out on a "lake" that is/was not privately owned by the OP, then they were pretty much up for grabs, by any one or anything that happens along.

The young boys "throwing rocks". Were they throwing rocks onto OP's property? Or were they throwing rocks into the "lake" that may not be owned by the OP?

Just from what I can glean from the various post, it seems that the ducks were allowed to roam on and off of OP's property. Not a good way to keep something safe.

The lake part is from another thread started by DesertDarlene. She recently witnessed, and dealt with, a similar situation.

I agree to some extent but unfortunately things have changed since we were kids in "the good old days". When we were kids we knew we were in trouble at school or wherever the offense took place, but we were also going to get a paddling at home when the folks found out.....now the teachers/neighbors/whoever the offense is against can't really do anything of consequence other than call the police (which should have been done before it got as far as it did), but too many parents don't do a darn thing either. Just the fear of getting in trouble and what that would mean at home...and no, people I'm not talking a beating, just a spanking....kept me from doing things when I was a kid as I know it did my brothers.

OK you know what? Im sorry OP but you posted for help and haven't posted with updates since. I know you have gotten criticism-which is expected with this kind of post no matter how you look at it because people are so worried about all your animals well being-but most just want to help or follow up with results from suggestions that were given to you. We cannot help any further when you dont update-you can have this thread closed if you choose or are afraid to update-we just want to know if anything has been done and are the other animals are safe from the torturers??
