I have already warned the kids these eggs only get to stay in the bator long enough to determine if they are are fertile and CAN develop, 7 to 10 days. We lost 4 chicks after starting zipping or shortly after hatching in the batch Dot came out of. It wasn't something I am really ready to go through all over again so soon. I may have a change of heart if the eggs not labeled as being fertile begin to develop on some weird stroke of luck. They are a dark pretty shade of brown.
I do glance at the egg shelves to see the dates each time I'm in Trader Joe's now. Even a neighbor that likes chickens, but doesn't have any, is now checking the dates when she is in there now. She bought them for me once. (We take turns filling each others grocery lists. Its something we started back in the SoCal Grocery strike some years ago and just still do because of the convenience. )
