We normally use them for birthdays and I use them sometimes when we don't have paper towels when I microwave bacon.

I try very hard to stay away from single use items. Paper plates aren't as bad as styrofoam, though, since you can compost them.

I've never had an air conditioner. I just installed a heater, but still no air conditioner. My house is quite well insulated and I live in an area that cools down at night. Open everything up during the night to cool the house down, the shut it up for the day.

We use them for parties. And if there's a few people over for a barbeque we'll use them. That's it though. Never for anything else.

People like convenience, I think.
