Kiki's found horse eggs—experiment Round 2

I'm also playing around with the idea of using a heat lamp with a water dish. I already have those materials. I just don't want to catch the house on fire.
Heat lamp isn't needed. A regular old school light bulb gets hot enough.

My turn! My silkie went broody again yesterday and a young man at church asked me to incubate some of my eggs for him. So I’ll get to see my crosses for the first time! Fuzz is a great mom, but is there any good way of determining viability before I give them to her? She’s still laying as of yesterday. Should I wait a couple days for her to stop? Never hatched my own eggs before!
She will stop laying eggs if she is full on broody. Wait for that. Give her a few days to see if she is committed.

Awesome! Have you heard of the paint can incubator? Thoughts?
It looks neat. The only thing I worry about is keeping an eye on the temperature. I know a regular light bulb has to be turned on and off A LOT of times throughout the day to keep the temp steady. I think you could hatch eggs in a pot, a box, a bowl...anything as long as you have a thermometer.

I can't imagine doing it without a thermostat. I'd look for a remote reading thermostat for reptiles.
I tried. It was a pain in the butt playing human thermostat. I will never do that again. I can't remember how many days I did it. 2 or 3? I'll go double check but it was probably the longest days of my life. It was horrible.
