I think I'm going to lose one of my lavender maran chicks.![]()
After about 10 days, it became clear that I had one runty one that just wasn't developing like the others. By two weeks it was half the size of the others and just kind of standing around and not racing about the brooder like the others. It was still eating and drinking, and no one was picking on it, so I left it in the brooder. I did give all the chicks some scrambled eggs yesterday, which they all, including the runt, gobbled down.
I went out this morning and found the runt lying on its side under the eco-glow. It had gotten cold last night, and even with the other chicks and eco-glow it just enough, I guess. It's inside now, on a heating pad covered with a towel. I tried to get a little water and a drop of nutri-drench in it, but not sure it's going to make it. In all honesty, I'm not sure it should make it at this point. It clearly is not a vigorous, healthy chick, and I'm having a hard time believing it will grow to be a sound chicken. My heart is breaking for it, and I don't want to do.
Did it take the Nutri-Drench?Sorry for posting my bad news here. I just needed to cry somewhere, and this has been such a supporting, knowledgable group.
It's in a warm quiet spot with a little scrambled eggs and water. I guess I'll know soon enough, what its chances are.
Thanks, and sorry for your losses as well.I feel for you.
I had a little one that partially zipped and that was it. I just left it, but the darn little one stayed alive. It took 2 days of off and on soaking to get all of the shell and cemented goo off of the poor little one. We named it Rocky because it was obviously a fighter. Rocky went into the brooder with the others. Was zipping around with no problems. 5 days after going into the brooder it went from zipping around to dead within 2 hours.
I'm having an horrible time trying to hatch chanteclers this year. I've set over 50 eggs and only 3 have been viable. 2 hatched. 3 weeks in, I found one gone.I'm never going to get my flock built up at this rate.
Every little bit helps!I dribbled some around it's beak and was able to get a tiny bit of N-D in it
It's eating wet food and eggs now and so I a put a little N-D in there as well. I think it's had a drop now, all in. That's enough, right?
If the chick is a few weeks old I would give a few drops (think 3) a few times a day.I dribbled some around it's beak and was able to get a tiny bit of N-D in it

Oh noI think my last egg died over night.
I'm waking up now. Will get pics in a few minutes.
