Kiki's Horse Eggs 2 HAVE HATCHED!! 1 left to hatch

@MROO Do you ship hatching eggs or chicks?

Not yet, we're still building our flock. At any rate, if we do ship eventually, it'll only be chicks. Eggs would be pick-up only. No matter how carefully you pack Nankin eggs, their small size and rounded shape makes them poor shipping candidates. Even a little bit of shaking up can easily the veining and kill the embryo - and I want all of these babies to have a chance!

I was watching the video and the Milk Drinker kept pointing at the screen and yelling "egg" (although it sounds more like "ag" right now). His new word for today was "ab-ble" (apple).

Oh, I now have 5 hatched babies and the 4 week olds with Molly. It doesn't look like the 6th egg is going to hatch. I'll candle it later.

Our first bunch was a clutch of 8, plus two from another hen, from Old Gjerpen Farm, in Virginia. You could also contact Colonial Williamsburg's animal husbandry department. They may have more information. The middle pic is of part of the Williamsburg flock.
There is also a new Nankin thread here on BYC, started by a friend of mine in Georgia (who also took the WMsburg pic.) Maybe if we get people interested in the breed here, we can save these amazing little birds. They have quite a history that's not worth losing ... like being the founding breed for most of the bantams sized down from standard chickens.
Oh WOW! My daughter just came running in to tell me that Pepper has FOUR peeps, not three! Doing the Happy Dance at our house!!!!
