Momma and baby picture! There are 7 under my little girl.

This makes me miss my broody momma hen so much. So hoping one of this year's hatchlings grows up with the instinct.

I'm back for a little bit.
I've been running the streets like a crazy chicken lady.

Okay I’ll try and be concise (who am I kidding I’m a chronic rambler)

My top priority is friendly and heat tolerant. Also needs to be good in confinement. I don’t care about the rest tbh. Here’s what I wittled down to:
Easter Egger (had them before, they were bat**** crazy but I want to give them another chance)
Andalusian (apparently they aren’t good in confinement?)
Barred rock (had them, love them)
Legbar (expensive!!!)
Welsummer (would they be okay in heat?)

If you had to pick three based on my criteria, which would you choose? I’ve researched a ton but need advice from actual owners at this point.

I’m actually asking everyone, just singled out Kiki because we have similar climates lol.

I would pick
Easter Eggers

I only have these two breeds from your choices.

I don't cuddle with my birds but my nicest most calm bird is my Dominique.
None of my birds are flighty or freak out if we pet them.

I will be getting more Doms in the future.
I would get more Australorps again.

I will not ever be getting Wyandotte again.


I am one that believes if they grow up in the heat they get used to it.
They have no choice.


All of my birds do just fine.

I haven't met a mean hen yet.

I am not a fan of roosters at this time.

I really like legbars from what I’ve seen but wow they’re expensive. $22 for a chick? Maybe in the future I guess, idk.

Okay, I know Kiki recommended EE.....
But no! from me
I've had 6 of them. 4 hens, 2 roosters.
The roosters made me feel like this every time I saw them
They were mean. Nearly killed each other and the hens. (I had 20 hens at the time)
The hens are very flighty.

They are also my worst layers. And I have over 7 breeds.

Sorry to rival the positive opinions of them. From my experiences they are really not worth it.

Just flitting around, and this post caught my eye. I love Doms. They are fantastic birds, very friendly. I am also a huge fan of EE. These 2 birds are at the top of my list. I'm also becoming quite enamored with Buck Eye and Plymouth Barred rock. IMO, these 4 breeds will remain the foundation of my flock. I find that any chicken who gets a facial massage from me quickly becomes "a pet".

Doms are my favorite now because of this one hen that I have.

When I am allowed roosters I will breed Doms.
