I would fail someone who was really trying but didn't learn the material. This would show up in their homework and test grades (I do hands on tests as well as written). I can't justify saying that someone is ready to get a job in IT if they don't know the basics.

I wouldn't fail someone without trying my best to help them, though, especially if they were really trying.

I had a guy who was close to 40 who failed because he couldn't get to class. He was single with no other commitments. He couldn't get to class, he didn't do his work. His mother was still doing everything for him so he'd never learned basic responsibility.

That’s understandable though cause they need to know it especially since it’s a vocational school right? So the people in there will all be going into IT? Or do they have other stuff there too?

I actually kind of wish sometimes that other people did that because I’ve had professors before that would just give everybody an A or pass people that really shouldn’t pass or whatever and it sucks that someone who didn’t try at all gets the same as someone who did.

And you at least actually work with them and give them a chance to fix it or whatever. Have you ever had anyone start out doing well and then just like ghost and stop showing up?

And oh boy! he totally deserved that one then hah

I teach IT, but the college has legal, business, medical, accounting, and hospitality programs too.

I have had some that started off well, then just disappeared. One had a drug habit and he was trying to get clean, but the drugs won this round. I hope he wins before the drugs win the war.

Oh wow lots of things! That’s awesome!

And oh man, I hope he does too! you seem like you actually care which is nice one of mine really did too and he was awesome but he sometimes had people just disappear too and he always gets like worried about them and stuff haha it’s sweet and I always feel bad.
