Round here, we have AC in our cars and when it goes out... We leave it and know it just means the warranty has expired.

I do not have an air conditioner in my house because it is much cheaper to use a swamp cooler. Your ambient humidity is too high for a swamp cooler to work which is why you have to have an air conditioner.
