We have problems with squash vine borers. Grew Butternut squash one year and vine borers since. Gave up. The chickens have planted pumpkins and they are doing OK this year after not having a lot of vines to encourage the borers. Did get a few borers, but the vines survived.

Appears the key is to plant them spaced apart and only a few. Still researching this. The chickens won't give me their secret and are eating the pumpkins before they get very big. I'm hopeful though.

We don't! Batty is mysterious. Claims to have a moat, dungeon and all kinds of stuff. Her camera is often broken because she posts fluffy white pictures. Can't be real.

I don't know why they wouldn't. With your growing season why limit yourself to 80 lb. pumpkins when you could grow 1,000 lb. pumpkins?

Good point!!! In all the depictions of Santa, the elves are happy and joyful and the North Pole is a fun place!!! @BantyChooks version sounds like Santa’s evil twin....
