Kill a hawk! Win a $10,000+ fine!

some folks participate in falconry they will help out a lot of time is another solution. I live in between chesapeake Va and weeksville NC and see them taken care of all the time farmers in that area don't play LOL

If read shiny hollographic mylar balloons will keep them away, plus things like pie plates with large red "eye" made from something shiny again faced toward the sky will deter them, but mainly my dog does the best job.

For what it's worth, I've had hawks stalking my chickens all winter and I still have all my hens. The reason I think it is this way is that the garden area I freerange on is small (20ft X 50ft) and I have two dogs and a determined cat. The cat is rather fat, but I've seen her stalking birds of prey with zeal. The bell she wears doesn't help the predators feel more comfortable either.

The hawks fly by surveying the situation and with 3 bigger animals hanging around nearby, they move on.

We have numerous hawks over at our farm. But we also have Buddy (140#+ Anatolian Shepherd) and Sheba (80#+ Great Pyrenees) that deter the hawks. the USDA Wildlife Services called me back and one of his suggestions was mylar ballons. Will suggest this to our 4Her. Please keep the ideas coming.

You should watch The Great Mouse Detective... that's the first thing I thought of when I read this post lmao... I now imagine your cat as obese with you ringing a little bell for her to lumber in and eat the defenseless and terrified hawks lol

I've heard stringing old CDs/DVDs from fishing line helps... sorry, we haven't had any problems with hawks, even though several pairs nest close to where our chickens were and ar.

How about hawk noodle soup? Eat the evidence;) I hear they taste like a cross between Spotted Owl and Peregrine Falcon.

We've got hawks galore but no problems. We also have cats that range around, and lots of places for free-ranging chickens to hide.

Crisscross fishing line may work, getting a cat may work, Mylar balloons may work.

It's just mean to shoot hawks.

This is probably not legal but if you get a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, within a short range the thing's pretty accurate and the BB's will bounce off of a hawk and sting. It may not take much to make it choose other territory. Airsoft could work too.
