Killing Foxes - DIY

PLEASE DO NOT KILL THE FOX!!!!!!! contact animal control and RELOCATE IT!!!! due to so many people being to lazy to fox proof their chicken coops or CALL ANIMAL CONTROL we have barley any foxes left in our area. this saddens me, its only a small animal looking for food. people also stop them from eating chickens by feeding them a little! they are just trying to survive! if anything we should be killing wolves! they are actually dangerous to PEOPLE!!!
This is very location specific. I'm on the other side of the country and we have so many foxes they regularly contract mange and die horrible deaths. Since the price of furs dropped low, few trappers bother anymore. I'm not a legal expert, but I believe that in PA you can trap nuisance animals at any time, but it is highly illegal to relocate them. You may kill them or release them in the same location, but you may not transport them live. Relocating a predator is usually consigning them to a torturous, slow death by starvation and aggression from the resident foxes in the area you dropped him in. It is much more humane to kill the fox, and our laws and game control officers recognize that.

i guess this is location specific. i just feel bad for them. they are just trying to live:(
I feel bad killing most anything (except mosquitos and poison ivy!). We have raccoons and I don't trap them in their space, but when things get tough and some start entering the barn to pick off the free ranging chickens, then I get the traps setup in the barn to dispach the ones that venture into the barn. As long as they stay "in the wild" they have my blessing.

So what's wrong with barley any foxes being left in your area? I wish I had your problem! A rabid fox is also a danger to people. They lose there natural fear of people and are apt to attack if surprised. Any animal that has found a meal at a particular place is going to eventually find its way back if relocated.

Lots of traps and snares demonstrated on utube. Been used in Briton on the Lord's estates for ages.

@lazy gardener the OP being in the UK, yes, I'd call that a no shoot zone.

They can be shot over here as long as the shooter has a firearms licence and appropriate calibre gun to kill the animal cleanly. Plus the land owners consent and it’s safe to do so within the environment.

hi, yes in uk so pretty much a gun free zone, LOL

I was thinking more of poison or home meds - heard an apple with lots of paracetamol in it might do the trick.

nothing so handy as an animal control officer in the uk

Lots of shooters over here and probably more than you think. Look for pest control in your area as many of these are licensed to shoot foxes. Please be aware though that if you take this one out more are likely to move into your area. I would not recommend poisoning it as you can’t be sure that that particular Fox would get the bait and not another unsuspecting animal.
Here are a few my son and his dad have shot in and around our village ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/gallery/albums/foxes.7427873/

How far up in the North East are you?

Please do not kill wolves! they are majestic creatures and are only dangerous to people when you approach them or their pups.
