Killing Horses for Humans to Eat!

If you all go on UTube and see "Extended version of inside the horse slaughter house" by dr00mverder, it will show how they butchered the horses. I do not know where this is at but it does not look like USA plant. Possibly Europe? I do not see anything wrong or cruel about the butchering of horses and the horses don't look too alarm going into chutes.

I will not post the link on here because it is a family friendly forum, PM me for the link and I will be happy to show it to you.

temporarily off topic DLS, but your Avatar bug tricked me.I saw something crawling out of the corner of my eye and waved my hand at the screen to shoo away the "fly" only to realize it wasn't real.

Kristy, that got me the first time i saw it also.

I'll be one of the first in line ad my local grocery if they start selling horse meat, especially if it is less expensive than beef -- I have no clue what it would cost though. I have no issues with horse meat as long as the slaughter was done ethically and was sanitary.

Have to disagree....horse meat was shi[pped to France and other countries for many years untill the banned. For HUMANS tables. Doesn't take that long to ship meat these days either.

I can honestly say that "today" I wouldn't eat a horse, cat, dog or any other manner of animal that I consider pets and a few others for that matter, But that being said, Things are rough now, but In the near future it may go from being really rough getting by, to full blown fight for Survival, In which case, A was told that a starving man would eat anything and think it was good. I don't know about the slaughtering of them now, I do feel it needs to be humane in any case.

As a side note I do feel like with the slaughter houses being re-opened for horses I can see the gov. stepping in and giving the meat as a surplus meats like they do the canned pork and chicken and beef.

It is an error to think that just because the FDA or the USDA approves something, that it is therefore safe, or that if the FDA or USDA does not approve something, then it must not be safe.

zzgypsy, thanks for the mention of Temple Grandin. I was going to bring that up too, but you did it well. I recommend her book, "Animals In Translation" to anyone who loves animals. Her work in making slaughter houses less frightening for animals has been impressive. There is a movie about her that is excellent, called "Temple Grandin". Excellent movie, and a wonderful look at the life and work of this amazing woman.

Had to find out about Temple and what she is all about. I am impressed with her methods and done in the most humane manner for these animals. Many of them are on UTube. I was surprised she was also austic.

Frostbite, you're welcome. I'm always surprised that we get this many pages into a discussion of how animals experience the slaughterhouse process without her name coming up. especially since she's designed half the systems in the US. makes me think the dramatic reactions folks have to the process are often more about drama and imagination and projection and less about facts. anyone who's read her work knows she's all about the animal's experience of the process. and she'd be THE expert, for a lot of reasons.

many of her written works on animal handling and animal's experience are available for download online, and she's got a number of books out. way worth reading, I've read everything of her's I've been able to find. TONS of insight there.

My sister knows her from Colorado State University where my sis went to vet school, Dr. Grandin is based there I think. says she's VERY different to interact with in person, she's not just autistic, but WAY autistic. quite remarkable what she's been able to do.

You are not the only one having trouble with this way of thinking. I do not consider one animal to be of a higher/lower "life value" than another. I believe that as long as the animal is raised as naturally as possible, killed humanely, and processed safely, there is nothing wrong with eating it if you choose to do so.

X 2

X 3 ..........plus something for horse lover to think about.......where did the saddle, reins, cowboy boots and etc. come from a animal that was killed for the meat and that leather.
