My kindergarten class is setting another batch tomorrow. I am VERY excited about this batch (I got a brinsea mini as a donation for the classroom). My husband and I (and a coworker with a farm) are keeping all the eggs that hatch, so no worries about rehoming after hatching!

The front left egg is a polish and the one right next to it is a silkie, the rest are a mystery. I love how there is one tiny egg in there and one giant brown egg, too. The kinderkids are already asking about what kind of chickens will hatch from green and pink eggs. One of my boys has already dubbed green egg "Hulk." ;) What a fun lesson!

If anyone is hatching around the same time as us we'd love to be involved in your process as well!

Good luck with your classroom hatch!

Reading posts like yours always makes me wish I would have had a teacher that did this kind of thing. You and those chicks will definitely make a lasting impression on your students.

Looking forward to updates!

Thanks! I work at a school in the city, so many of my kids don't ever get to see things like this. We had our butterflies emerge last month and THAT blew them away, I can hardly wait for their reactions when the chicks hatch. :)

How fun! And so good for kids to learn about where their food comes from, how animals grow...lots of lessons. I hope you'll document some of this with photos. I'd love to see one of the kids when they first get a look at a new chick, that would be priceless!

Wishing you luck! This is my third year hatching with my class! They have just pipped their shells tonight! Suggestion- I had the class do daily egg journals after we learned a new thing about eggs each day! I also had them do weekly "what's inside the egg" journals - one child started week one saying "yogurt" and today his journal said "air cels and blood vessels" it's so rewarding to do this with young ones!

Awww! My class hatched eggs in second and fourth grade... Its some of the best memories I have of school <3
You're an awesome teacher... Your kiddos will never forget it!

Ha! Yogurt?! Only kids...

My little kindergarteners have certainly learned a lot, I didn't anticipate them being this interested in the process so I didn't do a bunch of focus lessons around it. Next year, though!

I've got a pip! (My only polish egg in the bunch!)nI came into work very early this morning to take the eggs out of the turner and this little guy started peeping away when I picked up his egg. I raised the humidity a bit and set them. This is the frustrating part about having the incubator in the classroom, you have to work around the weekends.

These guys are supposed to hatch on Wednesday. Is it a problem he is hatching so early? I have a brinsea and the temps have been spot on this entire time.
