Hi, all--first time poster. Trying to find out what made off with our buff orpington.

We live in Seattle about 8 miles north of downtown, so it's more suburban than urban. Plenty of trees/brush for critters.

We think something got her in the afternoon or early evening. No sign of her except a few feathers in one spot in the backyard and a few feathers outside the fence. No signs of carnage, just feathers (not a lot but enough to show something went down). Our other chicken (barred rock) wasn't attacked.

Looked all over the yard and neighbors' yards, no sign. Didn't see her roosting anywhere.

From what I've read this indicates a red fox attack but I didn't think we had them in Seattle. Anyone know?

Any other ideas which varmint could have dunnit?

    Thanks a lot.

Sounds very characteristic of a fox to me.

    Hawk or eagle?
I live in seattle north of downtown and I had a hawk try to grab one of mine. Luckily it missed.
