Day Twenty-Two:

HAPPY THREE WEEKS!
Kirby is now three weeks old, I better enjoy this last week with him inside (hopefully 2 more weeks

) I'm nervous about letting him in the coop.
Funny enough I got him on April fools day.

He's been having some bad hair days, the down feathers on his neck stick straight up because his adult feathers are coming in.

Would anyone happen to have any white leghorn development pictures? Both roo and hen?
I still don't know if I should say Kirby is in fact a "he" because I've seen some white leghorn hens with some pretty big waddles and combs, Kirby's comb has gotten bigger over night though and I can see very tiny waddles.

I think that the coloring looks cool. I wouldn't go out and specifically buy a dyed chick just because they look cool but I'd be willing to rescue any that were purchased as Easter gifts.

One thing that I liked about our local TSC was that the minimum quantity for chicks was 6. That keeps the "Easter" crowd out I suppose.

Good job with Kirby! Should make a good rooster.

hahaha Kirby is looking awesome! The pink and white hi-lites are a definite 80's punk style!!
No idea on gender.... but either way nice looking bird.

Thanks everyone, his feathers are looking funny. xD
His down feathers stick straight up because of the feathers coming in.

I'll be putting new pictures up on Thursday, when he is 4 weeks old - just to see how big of a difference he is showing.

Oh, and is it normal for chicks to challenge older hens?

Kirby was outside with the hens and as the hens where eating from the feeder he would peck their mouths and bully them, eventually one of the hens ran up to him, but he started chest butting her and she ran away.
