Hello! We are just about to close on a house (fingers crossed!!), and I am already dreaming about having chickens again! We will be near Port Orchard, but outside of the city limits. How can I find out how many chickens I can have?
Also, if you going to be my neighbor--hello!!!:frow

Howdy neighbor welcome in. I live in the same area and I have about 15 ducks. My neighbors have upward of 30 chickens. Read the rules for your specific area including HOA rules you need to abide by.

Here is the rules as posted by Kitsap County:

https://www.codepublishing.com/WA/KitsapCounty/html/Kitsap17/Kitsap17455.html

Best of luck!

Edit:

This link has more readable information. Note in particular, “Kitsap DOES allow backyard chickens (etc), with some variability according to whether you live inside the city limits, or not. They are largely unregulated in unincorporated Kitsap, which just means you'll need to observe animal welfare regulations in general - and noise regulations, if you have a rooster that might bother neighbors.”

https://www.findkitsapcountyhomes.c...keep,and roosters are specifically prohibited

Thank you so much!!!! That is very helpful. We should hear that everything is in place on our house next week, and I have my fingers and toes crossed. The first thing I am doing after we move is to design my greenhouse and chicken coop. Anything you can tell me about your beautiful neck of the woods would be greatly appreciated. :):frow

Since you said you're not in the city, the county can tell you the requirements. On top of any county requirements, CC&Rs and HOA requirements may also apply, so be sure to check those, too.

Best of luck with your new home!
Thank you!!!

Congrats on the new house!

You will find that a good majority of people in and out of city limits have backyard friends. Some connect with others in the area via Facebook, I’m not 100% sure if there is a dedicated group. We are pretty helpful around here, and proud of it. You can find people on the “buy nothing” Facebook page that give away coops and coop material for free.

Welcome in!
