Kitten vs chickens 🙄

[My Very First 6 Chickens]

I allow all my cats to see the chicks through the bin as much as they want. I also correct them if they hit the bin bite it etc.(I use a deep tone NO then move them) I never hit them or yell. then one cat at a time they get to meet the chick duck etc (after they have been watching them for awhile. I also have a new kitten right now he is very frisky as well but he is doing great. So yes it can be done

I know this post is somewhat old, but I wanted to add to this.

Cats, (as well as dogs and other predators) have gram negative bacteria in their mouths. They also have a lot of bacteria under their claws. Cat/predator bites are almost always fatal in birds and small mammals (unless antibiotics are given, and even then it does not ensure survival).

Do not allow your cats/predator pets to play with or be near your chicks/ducklings/smaller pets. It only takes a split second for them to decide it's prey, and you can't always control their actions 100% of the time.

Baby duck sooo cute. My other cats could care less about chickens. Its just one rescue my daughter brought home. Black with white paws. It's rotten.

Cats won't bother an adult chicken or duck. I wouldn't suggest letting one around chicks or ducklings because they have a high prey drive just like dogs, and will eat them.

Have a kitten chasing my chickens daily now. They are in a half acre open coop set up. Chickens are starting to peck at him but he persists. In the past I held a rooster and when the cat went for it the cat got pecked and that was the end of that. But this kitten thinks it a game.

Yes while they're young its a good idea to discourage the kitten from "playing" with them.

Haha I do have 1 killer kitty but she knows if it’s in the house it’s off limits. She will go after mice and sm birds outside but won’t even think about it inside. I can have the babies out and on me with her as well and she actually will snuggle with them. Would I leave her alone with them ? No but us all together no problem
