Kitty and Dog Thread, Show Me What You Got, other critters welcome too

I adopted this dude from a sanctuary about a week ago. Meet Riggs! (Formally known as Scruffy). I’m highly allergic to cats, rarely find them adorable and knew absolutely nothing about cats in general before I got him so this is HUGE for me. I’ve learned so much. He is a mouser and a barn cat. Seriously! So far he has been perfect, you’d never know he was the new dude on the acreage. I’m such a sucker for animals.. I think I’m falling in love with a feline.

He really is! I’m afraid to brush him as I don’t want him to lose his winter coat being he’ll be outside

Hmm that’s a good point. Although it may actually insulate him better to let the fresh air get in and let him trap the heat without all the dead hair in the way

Really? I would’ve thought the opposite. I’m assuming it’s similar to a dogs winter coat? It isn’t matted at all

Yeah, the dead stuff doesn’t really help I don’t think and it can also lead to mats and moisture and stuff under there.

And yeah I think it is. The undercoat/double coat thing.

And that’s good! Brushing will help keep it that way though. Especially if he’s outside.

Thanks so much! I just read the same article. I’m a sponge lol when I know very little about something I soak up any and all info I can to gain knowledge. It’s a blessing and a curse!

He’s beautiful! I’ve always had cats (and dogs) and my sisters never have.. only dogs... one just recently “came over to the ‘smart’ side” I wouldn’t dare call it the dark side... but needless to say she is positively in love with her cat ... she’s funny cuz she had NO IDEA how awesome kitties are!
