Seems like that's what's most common in this region. We've heard old timers call it "dry stack." Our walls date from 1790s-late 1800s, if I'm not mistaken. Making our own rock structures taught us a thing or 2 about the people here before us...and about gravity. It's back-breaking work.

Ooooooooo, I love that! I wish I had those rocks@WhoDatChick, I hadn't seen those pictures. Nice! I think that's the official guidance for stacking rock--just do it. At least that's how we've been doing it. Was hoping you knew something we didn't Our property is chock-full of rocks, so we've been stacking them.

This is so interesting! Thank you for sharing them! I love old things like that...I love that!!! There’s a lot of rocks here in New England too or used to be, though I’ve never seen any that size. There’s old stone walls all over the place from old farms and stuff like several hundred years ago. I’ve always thought they were neat.
