Kitty litter for bedding.

Can I use kitty litter for bedding for the first two weeks?

If so, which would be better the gravel or the one that dries up wetness?

Any problems with them?

If your chicks eat the kitty litter (which they will), the clay will immobilize their digestive system.

Not a good idea.

A very good alternative with similar function is sand. I am using sand now in my brooder and it works great. Use a kitty litter scoop or reptile sand sifter to clean it. Keep it covered with paper towels for the first few days until they learn what and where their feed is.

Thanks for the replies. I was buying kitty litter today and wondering if it could be used since it is like gravel/sand.

The chicks haven't hatched yet and I'm getting the broody ready.

First time hatching chicks. And yes I know nothing.
