Hi, I'm Kiwi Mamó
I'm from Invercargill, New Zealand. I was born and raised on a farm, but lived in town most my adult life, retired.
My human chicks flew the coop years ago, so I have a dog (mini-schnauzer) Lucy, 2, an eldery moggy,15, Maria and a few fish swimming round as well.
I have never owned chooks, but have been researching them, housing and care for about 5 years. I have designed a coop, which I'm up to detailing parts and costing and drawing the plans in SketchUp (which doesn't like me much :)) My hand drawn plans just got too messy, and hopefully start buying in the next couple of weeks.
It's 180x180xm (6x6 feet) with a total run of 18x6 feet inc under the coop.
The chooks I would like to get are Orpington, Plymouth Rock, Speckled Sussex, Barnevelder. I thought I'd start with 4-6 and see how we go.
I found BYC via google while researching chooks and coops over the last 5 years or so, and it has a wealth of info and an active membership, so now that I an about to be a chook Mum, I thought I would join :)
 
Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow There are a lot of coop articles in BYC but sounds like you have yours pretty nailed down. One hint, always go bigger than smaller. Someday you'll be glad you did. You say you want 4-6 now. Soon...
