Knee Replacement? Please share your experiences.

Thanks, I'm still freaked out about what's ahead. Hopefully I'm fairly mobile within the first week or two to help out somewhat around here and to be able to let the dogs in and out all day. I also have fish tanks that need water changes, my outside critters my husband can tend to for a while, way too much to wonder about. I'm also feeling out my options for rides to therapy, I hate having to ask for help.

Hi oldhen I have read your post and will keep you in my prayers. I had both knees totally replaced in 2009. You will do fine just do your therapy yes it's not easy but you can do it.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I will be glad when it's all done, though that will take a bit as they are replacing one at a time. Did you have both done at the same time? They told me they used to routinely do that but the complication rate was higher, so one at a time for me.

No I had one done at a time. I had my right one done first. But don't rush trying to get back to work because I did and I got really frustrated so it's better to let the healing process take it's course. They want you to keep ice packs on your knees so I found that a frozen bag of peas worked great for me. If I can help you with any questions feel free to message me. You got this

Thanks. I thankfully don't work, but do have lots of responsibilities I put on myself at home, it will be hard to not vacuum every morning.

How long before you were able to drive? I'm reading both 4 and 6 weeks. I really don't want to ask people for rides for the whole 6 weeks, I suppose when I get the right one done it's longer? And can you remember how mobile you were by week two? In my head I'm already gimping around, I will take your advice of not being too eager too soon.

I also am waking up in the middle of the night with panicky thoughts and a desire to call it all off. I believe that's normal before everyone of my surgeries. Good thing I can't call in the middle of the night to cancel it.

Yes 6 weeks before I could drive. And I was on a walker for 6 weeks, then on a cane for 2-3 weeks.

Well my insurance paid for my walker and cane.
