Knitting 🧶 (Help and Knitters Chat Thread)

I have a lot of blonde issues. Too many videos showing too many ways of casting on is the biggest. I have my way, but only tonight saw a pin that looks like it’s the way I remember from childhood. IE, I can ignore the other ways. I think.
My kinda favorite teacher is left handed, but that’s not a problem since my mother is too. I keep doing it left handed from muscle memory. The issue with her is that she tried to show right and left. :th I got overwhelmed.
I can’t find my knitting needles, and I am keeping today’s improvised instruments and results to myself.😊 I will report back when I get needles, and can decide if I have the hang of the beginner stuff.

Dang, I wish we all could get together. I've been knitting for 40+ years and I know how hard it is to learn to do something by book or video when you can't say, "What? Do that again. Is it like this?"

I learned to knit by watching over my mom's right shoulder (both right handed). Then I could see what her hands were doing from almost the same angle as I would see my own. For what it's worth....

Good luck!

When we are out tomorrow intend to pickup some yarn but going wool and needles .. The video posted by @BullChick I feel like I may be able to learn now ..
maybe I am patient enough now

I just got knitting books from the library
I started with children’s books. I found them to be much easier to understand for someone brand new. The adult books tend to assume you already know something.
I found wooden needles to be helpful because your stitches don’t fall off so easily. I later upgraded to a circular needle set from Denise. I only mention the brand so anyone can look it up and see the usefulness of a set. It saves you lots of money over time. You quickly find you never seem to have the right sized needle! :) But with a set, you’re set. Lol
The added bonus is it’s all one piece so you can’t lose the other needle, or sit on it.
Using circular needles for straight lines is very easy, I promise! :)
I love crochet, too!
Crochet has it’s benefits because you’re only ever working one stitch at a time. Unless you do Afghan or Tunisian crochet.
The Tunisian knit stitch is my favorite for blankets and dishcloths because it’s basically a double layer of yarn. Great for washing knives and other sharp things, not so great for the inside of glassware.
I can’t believe I didn’t see this earlier!

These are all helpful websites. I actually taught myself how to knit & crochet a few years ago from watching various internet tutorials. Knitting is fun, but in my opinion crochet is better & easier & faster!🧶
I completely (dis)agree. Lol!
I have certain things like lace that I much prefer to crochet than knit. But prefer to knit blankets and hats, usually.
I find new stitches and patterns to be easier to learn in crochet because you see more quickly if its going well. And if it isn’t you just rip out one stitch at a time until the mistake is gone.
Knitting looks much nicer and it’s easier to keep the piece going in a straight line.
