Only 59 days until Halloween!
Okay, yeah, it's early, but if the truth must be known I was screaming in excitement about it to my family and friends way back in June. I don't even know why I like it so much . . . well, okay, I do have a list of reasons. The time of year is perfect, it's not a stressful holiday which you have to make huge plans for, unlike Christmas and other holidays you aren't made the center of attention while opening gifts or something, or if you want attention you can garner it anonymously while in costume, dressing up is always fun, and Jack o lanterns are about the coolest things ever . . . but that doesn't explain my near obsession with it. I never even liked candy!
Any other Halloween lovers out there?
This year I'll be gathering up as much Halloween decorations as I can on Craigslist, Freecycle, etc, because in 2010 I'm planning a Hallowedding. I've put this wedding off for years now, each year had a different excuse. It was definitely supposed to be this year, but then my SO got a new job and job stuff keeps him busy all of October, so 2010 will be the year of no excuses. I know it's a bit early to talk about it, but I figure if I type it down here I'll have witnesses, and I won't be able to back out again.
The interesting bit about the wedding is that my SO and I are already married, but no one in our families knows it. I've a terrible phobia of being the center of attention, so it gave me some time to get used to the idea of being noticed by getting married WAAAAY before the actual wedding . . . which is one reason the darn thing has been planned and abandoned so many years in a row. This is the first year that I've actually had a legitimate excuse for putting it off again. When I first heard of Halloweddings, I thought it was a great way to calm me down, because there is nothing that I have longed for more than to throw a spectacular Halloween party.
I know people usually just talk and dance at wedding receptions, but I'm a huge game nut and I want games! Does anyone have any good ones up their sleeves? I'm not a social person (at all), so my store of knowledge on such matters is quite limited. I did find an excellent winking murderer game on another forum that I'm dying to try. I want to do the chicken poop gamble (where people buy numbered squares, and the person who bought the square the chicken poops on first gets all the money). <-----There, just to make this post more chicken related, since I always feel bad if I post something on a chicken forum that has nothing to do with chickens. And bobbing for apples . . . that's three games, but the apple bobbing is more for show as a staple of Halloween set ups, and the winking murderer and chicken pooping thing is so non time consuming that I'd love to fit in a couple more good games. This forum is about a thousand times bigger than the Halloween forums I've found, so I figured I'd cast out a net here and see what comes up. Anyone who's been on here at all knows there's plenty of ingenuity in the minds of BYCers.
Sorry if this post disjointed or overly excited sounding, if there can be such a thing. I'm still worked up after having found an awesome decoration at Goodwill this morning. I'm now the proud owner of a 10 foot tall grotesque . . . thing. The lady who checked my SO out said she couldn't imagine anyone would actually want something so ugly. Ain't Halloween grand?
