It has come to my attention, that some members do not list anything in their "about" them section.
It's weird because it's as if they are hiding from someone or something they don't want to disclose.
The only information you may know about them is what they post as their "Avatar" picture regardless if it may offend others. I must admit, some Avatars offend me and I don't want to see it or read it.
When these "Obscure" people offer advice, their answers are full of "puffery".
It is helpful to know the members location because of different preditors from that area or the type of enviroment they live.
We are here to help and offer as much factual advice as possible.
Taking advice from the
"Mysterious Unknown Avatar" person is not showing comradery.
So, don't be shy, please tell us something about yourself so we can better assist you when a problem arises.
Many are considered "Experts" and are extremely knowledgeable supported by facts and some just talk.
Read the "about" section to learn about who you are receiving advice from.
Most have become "Chicken Forum Friends" from across the globe so, don't be like some and hide behind an Avatar.

I understand where you're coming from. However, I have a different perspective.

A person with a well written intro isn't necessarily an expert on fowl. It's all self written and nothing has been vetted. Not to mention some people are careful about disclosing their location with good reason. Yes, most of us are here for chicken related reasons, but creeps are out there and a few folks have run into them here. This is the internet after all.

So while location is a factor, for say coop ideas and predators, a general description of environment should be enough.

I appreciate your prospective.
I can't agree more with the comment regarding a "well written intro"..
But listing a location as a house and a roof is darn right silly!
Is that General enough? Lol.
The questions are meant to tell a little about yourself in a nutshell, that is all.
Just tell "something" about yourself.
A name, even if its made up is a little more personable and friendly than nothing at all. Thats all I'm saying.
I guess I'm not that special or find myself having the need to be so secretive. Therefore, I find it strange and void.
But, I can tell a lot by the Avatar too.
The Avatar, no location, no name tells me all I need to know about a person....Nothing.
It doesn't matter if they know or think they know what they are talking about.
Their are way too many true, experienced "Experts" as I call them on this site. I value their responses to people, I follow them and learn tons from them.
I just think it would be more personable, thats all.
Give Nothing, Receive Nothing.
They can stay hiding in a closet, basement or behind a mask,
It matters not to me because, I just list the name as "ignor" and I dont have to give any credence to what they have to say.
I work night shift, therefore, I'm going to bed only to repeat it again tonight.
New Mamas & their new babies provide me with job security that's for sure.
Have a safe Labor Day weekend.
(Labor Day, lol, no pun intended) Lol

Well... 😒... I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that I was a reader and learner on this site long before I created an account. I do share some information on my profile, though as an introvert, I am not as... accessible... as an extravert might be. 😒 Reservation and disclosure of personal details doesn't make a person less interested in a topic nor does it make them secretive.
Just because the internet makes it easier to share, doesn't mean those who do are what they say they are either. 😕 I would venture to say that those who are more outgoing are likely to have a profile and an interaction to match-- and that many of us who aren't as... bold... won't be.
Does this mean that shy people or quiet people aren't knowledgable people..? 🤨 I think not. It seems when a person gets used to reading what people have written, they can glean if a self proclaimed expert really is such or if this is a person who might just feel the need to feel like one.
(slow shrugs)
I like detail so I understand why a person might prefer to have more in order to create a judgement call about all the personalities in this forum, but really... isn't what they say and how they say it the best gage to determine who they are..?
And-- to be absolutely blunt-- I can't imagine why someone who didn't actually enjoy chickens and want to learn more about them would want to be on this forum! 😂 My DH likes chickens just fine but it really would be a special form of torture if he had to create a profile here and participate... you know what I mean? 😂🤷‍♀️

The most important thing that you listed is your location. Having a location is very helpful because it can help when issues are experienced that may vary very differently than say someone that lives in Alaska or in Germany.
I agree, as some may classify themselves as an introvert, as an adult it then becomes a life choice. If a change is desired, than it can be done to some degree and psychiatrist will agree with that statement. I have seen my friends change and my husband changed and both improved tremendously and are fun to be around.
This forum is a very friendly place so why do people hide without putting a name to their statements. Being accountable with a stated statement or knowledge of what is said is something to be proud of and verbalizes in words who you are as a person.
Life is too short to stay inside and hide.
Make friends, interact and enjoy the comardery on BYC.
In fact, you reached out to me to make a statement about the topic that I initiated and look,! You are having a cyber conversation. I am glad you reached out.
BTY, I like your Avatar picture, its a funny facial expression.
You have nothing to loose and everything to gain...like cyber friends.
Plus, we have chickens in common.
Hope to see you around on the site more often.
Have a great weekend,
Vicki
