Koi pond

I would love to get some runner ducks, but we have a Koi pond and I would prefer to keep ducks out of it, giving them there own pond. I would prefer to let the ducks have free range in our garden, obviously putting them in a secure house at night time. How high would a fence have to be to keep runner ducks out of my pond?

well, do you plan to keep wings clipped? runners are pretty good fliers, but with clipped wings i have kept them in a four foot fence. it would also depend on how much they want to get to the pond. if they have their own pond, they will be less likely to have a great desire to go into your koi pond. i have never tried to keep ducks out of a pond though, so this is just a few tips and personal experience.

Almost 30cm high fence will suffice to keep most ducks out from your koi pond.

If you put a string around the pond or fishing wire, this should keep them out. Make the string high enough that it touches their chest when they get near it. Perhaps even a double string would be better.
