You can tell mine apart now. All the hens have light salmon to grey chests and the males are coming in with black chests. All 3 of my bbr are coming in with black breasts. I am going to cross them with one of my silver hens. When I cross the f1s back to the bbr parent, will give me all bbr chicks.

I got my new coup built and moved my chicks outside. It was funny to see them the fist time they were on grass. They are loving it now.

Mine are able to tell apart now as well. I have noticed something, it appears that females are fully feathered earlier than males? Some of my males are still growing in their hackle/breast feathers good, I've got by what I could count so far 5-6 males, and about 4-5 females. That still leaves a few missing but they're mixed in with Leghorns and keeping track of them all currently while they all huddle over the feeder its difficult to make sure I'm not double counting

My female's breast patterns range from light salmon, to medium, and one is a dark salmon coloration. The chick that was almost black is still the oddball, he is darker but from what I could tell should turn out BBred in the end.. Either way he won't be used for brood stock, he is the only one (or maybe there is one more?) that came pea combed. Planning on moving them soon to a better pen and separating the Leghorn's from the Kraienkoeppe so maybe I can get more photos then.

Just a few statistics I came over as I was moving the birds today.

Out of 20 Ideal Kraienkoeppe. I received approximately 9 males, 10 females, and 1 unknown (too dark to tell right now, but leaning toward it being female). There were a total of 3 pea combed birds with all others bearing walnut, only one bird came white legged, the rest are yellow.


Got a good mix of birds, guess I was blessed . Guess I'll be eating good for the most part, but if I get some off well enough for breeding, I'd be willing to let some slide fairly cheap or for trades assuming all make it well by the time I start selecting breeders. Probably will start trying to update regularly now, since they're moved it may be easier to get better photos. I also did not see red striping on any of their legs, but they are young, that may change as they age.

Let me know if you would like to sale them ? thank you .

I don't have any right now that I would like to get rid of. I want to see how well they develop. I will have eggs this fall if you are still interested.

I'll keep you in mind Mr. Ray, but it will take some time. I don't like judging fowl until they are at least nearly 1 year old, they will be around that age probably before I decide which ones I want to use for breeding/soup if they are not useful for someone else.

I was looking at my birds this morning. One of my bbrs has a pea comb and one has a slight crooked beak that looks like a parrot . I know that a walnut comb is a cross with a pea comb and a rose comb and you will get throw backs from that cross in your birds. All my silvers have the right combs. They are feathering in nice now. They are outside now and will not stay still long enough to get pictures. I will post new ones when I can.

Also the legs and feet on my bbr are much larger than the ones on my silvers. I quess it is the malay in them. They are the same size as my dark cornish legs and feet of the same age.
